I see that its a track that still has jointed rail.

And a very lacking maintenance record. Rails in the siding date to 1927, the main to 1947. Also note the roadbed washing out on the left of the siding track - in some areas to the point that I could slide a foot under the ties. And some of those aren't even spiked to the rails anymore...

Well they'll learn to keep it up to par eventually when a train spreads the rails or derails or something.

I'm more interested to see how well-maintained the enormous trestle nearby is... SUPPOSEDLY the speed limit on this line is 15 MPH, but this train appeared to be going faster than that. I guess since this is a secondary route that primarily hauls coal it's not a huge target for funds, though they've managed to start installing new signals in the meantime to replace the perfectly functional C&O signals. Go figure, it's CSX.
