They are very high in the Darwin award ranking, probably "survival of the dumbest award 2011", are those people never thinking about the conductors, the brakeway a locomotive has? Last year in our village a young women got killed because she crossed a track in foggy weather, she was caught by an Ae 6/6 which was going with shunting speed, the conductor naturally made a emergency brakeing but the locomotive (120 tons) had another 40 meters to stop

I don't see this kind of idiocy as much in Germany, but most German mainlines are sealed off better than this one is.

Most Germans are probably also smarter than most Americans...
But there's also the fact that a lot of the railways here are still on more or less their original routes laid down in the mid to late 1800s, so towns and cities have sort of grown around and right up against them, whereas a lot of infrastructure in Germany (and the rest of Europe really) is newer thanks to WW2 and a much better rail system that was put in place afterwards. The ease of access is nice, but I'd prefer the better infrastructure and design...

You wonder what the general public is thinking sometimes when they call the cops on you instead of dummies like these.

And I can't count how many times I've almost had to call them myself... Sometimes I wish it were legal to use a radio to talk to train crews so I could warn them of people like this.

Very true. Some days I just wish I were a member of law enforcement...

everytime i see this it's like when i see skaterboarders, i jsut hope they hit a rock and fall. in this case i hope they fall and clear the tracks with just enough time to lose a finger or something to teach them not too walk the tracks

I tend to hope the engineer has to hit the mushroom so he/she can get out and give the idiots a what for. My personal favorite is still people with their iPods playing in their ears as they walk down the tracks between the rails. At least walk in the ballast on the side, people!

I'm trying to come up with a clever name for those people involving the I in Ipod, like Itrain... but really clever, however all i can come up with are Idiots. Maybe we could call those people Diots

Oh, so the crummy store-brand ones they always give you. You get what you (don't) pay for there... Why I go to Costco and get the 36 Energizer AA-s for ~$14. Awesome deal.

Maybe, but crazy sounds too much like they have an excuse to be doing this. "Dumb" might be a better adjective.
Possibly so, though I hope I never get that photo opportunity...
