Description Hey all! The lovely requested a series of Legend of Korra Book 4 style characters. Hope you like them!
-FN

Some people have been asking me how I come up with my designs, or why I choose to do things certain ways. So I guess I'll use these as a quick example!

For the first two they are siblings meant to be the children of Sokka and Toph, with influences from both cultures. The boy is a water bender and the girl is an earthbender, so while they both have references to each culture, they favor the one they bend with predominantly. I took inspiration from Toph and Sokka's original style choices, and was influenced by the robes worn by the Metal Benders of Zao Fu as well.

For the second two they are a married couple, the first is an Air Nomad, and the second is a Waterbender. But like the first pair, these wanted to represent both cultures in small ways, which is why you see yellows and blues incorporated into both outfits.

For the Air Nomad, her previous designs have featured similar hair styles, and short yellow skirts with a layered shawl, and in one design a long glove. Which is why in this new design, while the client didn't want the new spandex-squirrel suits from Book 4 of LoK, I did want to give a nod of appreciation to the new look, so I peeled the suit apart and took the glove and leg elements and toned them down and incorporated them into the design. I also chose to separate the skirt portion of the dress into 4 pieces to allow for the 'flow' of traditional air-nomad robes, while still keeping in mind the modified aerodynamic suits of the new generation. This decision was also based off of the previous short skirt designs which were a clear signifier of the character.

For the last character, I incorporated yellows and oranges into his design to harken back to his wife's culture. But then I utilized feathers, beads, and shades of blue to represent the Water Tribe. I also wanted to make his outfit look a little like a collection of pieces of clothes, as if he had been traveling (which his character does a lot of) and had picked up bits of his wardrobe along the way. But ultimately I wanted his (and his wife's) outfit to be relatively modest in terms of glitz or ornament because they seem to live relatively humble/simple lives as they help others. I also chose warmer tones and undertones (hints of pink/red as I mixed the colors) for both of their characters to help exude a kind nature, whereas I used cooler undertones (hints of yellow/gray/green in the mixing of colors) to exude a sharper, or quicker nature.

So if you guys have any questions or ever want me to explain more of my process don't hesitate to ask ^^

Aw thank you! I really had fun playing with Xia's book 4 design as I tried to incorporate the trends of modern Air Nomads with Traditional robes, and her past styles. ^^

No problem. I think you did well with her design, it suits how she has dressed in the past but also is very unique to her situation
