Having too much fun with these portraits to stop but I need to because I've got an essay I should be doingFinnr Larsen, the man that drowned... but didn't c:<
Another of my characters in the same roleplay as the previous two: pirate, fisherman, a little mad, right-hand-man of the Captain (the quartermaster? We haven't quite figured out if he is, yet).

I mean in the grand scheme of things yeah Finn will become Nantale’s right hand man. Indon’t exactly know what a quarter master is but with a quick google it says it has to do, at least sometimes, with steering and navigation. So.. yes? But also no bc quartermaster in a navy is a petty officer, which is lower ranked? I mean at the point we’re at in the story that’s probably what he is. Idk anything about sailing so
Also Nantale still wants to fight to make Finn happy but what else is new??

Quartermaster is a very important role on a pirate ship. I mean, I'm not sure if Finnr would be Quartermaster at all because the quartermasters are basically on level with the Captain of the ship and have just as much right to shout out commands, while also acting as the person who acts according to the best interests of the crew (if the crew had anything to say, they would tell it to the quartermaster). It's the quartermaster who would deal with everything like recruitment, dealing out rations, punishment etc.
The only time a captain takes absolute control where his/her word is law (this is in traditional pirate lore, it doesn't work for the RP so much) is during battle. At all other times, the quartermaster is basically a second captain but one representing the entirety of the crew. In this way the role is very different from traditional naval ranks.
Like I said, this doesn't work for our RP so much since Nantale is supposed to be top priority, so I don't think Finnr would really work out as a Quartermaster.

I mean it would probably make more sense as the acquire more ships and people because I told you before they will be getting a man o war which as I understand is big AF so maybe there, if anywhere?
And besides the only reason it really doesn’t work is bc Nantale likes to know everything that’s going on and insists that if someone has a problem that they go to him. A caring boy, the Captain is.
Lmao what if Tale gets Finn the man o war for his birthday? Like he’s super secretive about it and no one will tell him what it is other than ‘it’s a big surprise’ and even if he tries to sneak read Tale’s journal it doesn’t say anything about what it is so it’s an honest surprise when Nantale brings him to the docks and yells ‘happy birthday!!”. Then catch me crying in the club at Finn’s childlike, gleeful reaction.

Yeah, Nantale's kinda the captain and quartermaster in one. Finn wouldn't really work too well as a quartermaster because he doesn't give a shit about anyone else (that's not entirely true but basically... XD).
omg he would go insane! Generally he likes smaller ships, actually, but OH MAN Nantale would not be able to get Finn off that ship for WEEKS.
Nantale: Finn! Seriously, I'm getting worried about you. You haven't set a foot off that boat for over a month, I can't keep bringing you supplies so that you can live there like a hermit for the rest of your life! And don't start thinking I'm gonna keep traipsing into the cabin every time I want to see you- it stinks of fish and armpit sweat in there!
Finn: *voice muffled from inside the ship* I'M NOT LEAVING. MAKE ME.

*Finn leaves the cabin with a goofy grin on his face, saunters over to Nantale, and gives him a giant hug*
Finn: Pleeeeeeease. I love you Nantale please can you bring me just one bottle?
Nantale, trying to push away from Finn: No. and get away from me you smell! *he says with a laugh, loving the hug but hating the smell* You can’t guilt me into another bottle. Not until you wash up and join us in the Den.
*five minutes later Nantale comes back with a washtub, soap, and two bottles*
Nantale: I hate you so much.
Finn, grinning: You love me!
Finn will scREAM the second he opens his eyes to see the man o war on the docks. ScrEAM
