There's a trick to getting rid of all the white at once.
Open the IMAGE menu and click on CALCULATIONS. Check the first Invert box which is in the SOURCE 1 section. Change BLENDING to Normal and RESULT to Selection. Click OK and the most apparent lines of your drawing (this works better with inked stuff) is selected only. Now you can copy the selection and paste it onto a new layer. All the white is gone and the lines are left intact in the new layer.

Yes, before you color. When you open a lined pic you use that method to get rid of the white first. I didn't think you would use it on an already colored pic. XP
