Description I don't have time to check over this for typos and the like right now, I apologize.

These are CLOSED, PERSONAL SPECIES, you may absolutely not make your own. There will probably be a chance to get one in the future, one that doesn't require anything on your behalf, you just need to accept the rules and conditions that will come with it. So calm your buns.

The baby featured here is mine!
Other babies This also contains information on the headworld in the description and in the featured comments on that submission.

About the species
Levi are mysterious creatures found only on the planet Eremus, which make the underground ocean their home during adulthood.
-They are sort of anti-amphibians, living in shallow waters where they can crawl along the sands while young, but descend into the underground ocean when they get big enough, they slowly look more and more like whales, but they don't become drastically different before descending. The Levi continue to change physically and continue to dive deeper and deeper as they grow, and they look completely different when they finally reach close to the planet's true crystal surface. At that point they look a lot less like what we'd normally think creatures would, more like a spaceship or submarine made of nudi flesh.
-They are hermaphrodites, after they descend into the underground ocean (and thus, have achieved sexual maturity) they begin to greet one another by releasing sperm clouds with the usual singsong greetings, they preserve all the genetic material they've collected throughout their lives. When a Levi has finally reached the end of it's long life, it mixes the stored sperm with it's own eggs and after a somewhat short pregnancy, they ascend to the surface. This kills the parent, their remains becoming a safe haven for their children (lifeforms on Eremus contain aether, the dissolved particles of the crystal surface, in their bloodstream. When certain critters die, the aether in the bones crystalize and they become sort of geode-like. So the birthing oasis for the levilarvae is covered in a sort of crystal-reef/graveyard. Life and death yo idk)
-levilarvae are incredibly intelligent creatures. They remember almost everything they experience in their entire lives, and more highly developed emotionally. They are, however, a mostly solitary creature after they descend into the ocean. When two Levi do meet down there, they sing and dance around each other in greeting/happiness, they are very peaceful and kind creatures, they will help other Levis in need (and would help other creatures too probably, but they'd never be able to come into contact with them since they are alone in their environment)
-To the natives of Eremus, the submerged crystal planet is essentially their deity, and because Levi are the only creatures that can get close to this deity, they are seen as divine beings themselves. The levilarvae are treated with the utmost respect and adoration, a native may be allowed to become one's guardian and protector, but if any foul play were to happen or be suspected, the larva would be taken from them and released back into the pools, possibly to be chosen by another guardian.

Now onto things about Levilarvae
-A levilarva (plural: levilarvae) is the larval form of the Levi.
-They are capable of imitating sounds very closely, they will become bonded with a certain sound. This is essentially their name, they name themselves in this way. If a larva would imitate a bird chirping, you could call it bird, chirp, ect or the specific sound, it all counts as the same name. Very specifically though, it is the exact sound it makes, so although there can be multiple 'Bird's or 'Chirp's, it is unlikely that there will be another with the exact same sounding name.
-As a larva, their intelligence can be compared to that of an 11 year old. They are really immature though, super playful! You have to bribe them to do stuff for you, candies work but too much is bad for them.
-As a levilarva, the critter feeds on berry-like things that grow in their watery home, like underwater grapes sorta. They are small enough to fit entirely in their mouth, which they have the ability to squeeze the inner mouth flesh and crush the berry and drink the juices easily. The tongue is small and round, they do not have teeth. The mouths and general muzzle area can come in different varieties, but the mouth always comes in bird (V shaped) cat (W shaped) dragon (3 point, can't find letter to use here OTL)
1. The cavities on their chest are the opening of tubes that run all the way down the sides of their body to the tip of the tail, the flesh inside as well as the openings of the chest cavities/tail hole can constrict or dilate when needed. They move very quickly away from danger by sucking in water and squeezing it out the tip of the tail (which is a smaller entrance then the chest cavities) They can leisurely travel by letting their momentum carry them, forcing water into the opened cavities and squeezing out the tip of the tail, continuing to propel them along.
2. The head things are rhinophores, organs which pick up scents and tastes sort of, detecting chemicals in the water.
3. The top part of the levi is covered by a 'mantle' which flares out looking like a little cape from behind the rhinophores along their body to the sides of their tail. This cute thing ruffles in the water as it moves, especially if they are moving fast. The top of the mantle usually has super iridescent spots of varying color. As the levi ages and grows, these spots don't grow larger but actually grow in number, which after the levi has reached massive proportions the whole mantle just looks super iridescent, but you can see the individual spots if you look up close.
4. They can't see super well, they can make out shapes but they can't make out color (can't see how pretty they are :C) the eyes are only useful for the larval form, they lose their eyes as they grow into adults. Their senses of smell, taste, and sound are much more developed.
5. The toes are sort of squarish shaped, they have three toes on each foot. They can grip things like grass and hair much better then larger things, they don't have a strong grip. The palms of the hands are super sensitive, they can detect scents and tastes.
6. The tentacle looking things on their backs are pretty much gills, they can retract these gills into the body when pulled out of the water to remain oxygenated for a longer amount of time outside of the water. Also the rhinophores can't support themselves out of water, they droop like floppy ears.

FAQ

You mentioned they will be available to adopt?
SORT OF. These guys are super important to me and my headworld, I'm really hesitant to allow others to have them because I don't trust other people (for very good reasons). If I were to let someone trade me for one, or buy one off of me, there isn't actually anything I could do if they did something horrible, it'd be their character and I wouldn't be able to take it back. So if I do decide to have these for adopt, it'd be more of a guardianship then an ownership (which I feel sort of ties in with how they are treated in my headworld too, if you read back). They will be essentially free, as long as the rules are read and followed, and I retain the rights to take it back and possibly put them back up for adoption if the rules are broken. btw, I wouldn't just take it for a little reason, I'm a really mello and forgiving person.

Will we be able to age them up? As in, draw them in their adult forms?
Nope. For one, I'm still working on the adult forms. Two, they aren't supposed to have 'guardian's into adulthood, they are supposed to be let go when they grow to a certain size. Close friends will probably be allowed to draw them as adults when I finish the adults designs.

So, can I not do certain things with the character since I'm not the owner, but the guardian?
Sort of. You won't be able to make any major changes to the design at all, you absolutely won't be allowed to trade/sell/gift it (it must be returned to me. Breaking the rules by trading/gifting/selling the design will result in me taking it back and possibly blacklisting you from doing business with me in the future). It can be used in roleplays, drawn, ect. any way you like, as long as you realize that certain things can't happen in-canon! Like they can't talk, but I don't mind you having yours talk in a personal roleplay or something.

Just a tiny little piece of feedback - perhaps the rhinophores could also be super sensitive to vibrations in the water, so the levilarvae would be able to sense when something's moving near them. They could maybe use this as a way to escape from predators..?

Ah, entonces creería que no hay problema, nomás mirá si hay "reglas" o algo para hacerte uno, que a veces hasta las especies abiertas tienen términos y condiciones de uso.

Thank you! They are mainly distributed through raffles and draw-to-adopts, they are non-profit for specific reasons (listed in the description) so you won't find them available for sale or trade.

OH NO it's fine, thank you for telling me! I noticed it doing this a while back and tried changing the image file and everything but it didn't work, I figured since it still works when clicked on and I'd rather make a new guide anyways, I wouldn't bother reuploading.

You mentioned them mimicking noises (like birds)- does that mean other earth-esque fauna is on Eremus? (Asking for the latest DTA- trying to get my entry together for Gummy!)

(Omg also so so sorry if this was answered someplace- I'm on mobile currently and it's easy to miss things!)

Fumi-LEX In reply to AnimalBag [2015-06-15 15:14:25 +0000 UTC]

Mmm no earth creatures live on eremus, though for the same of convenience I'm letting people use sounds that they would be familiar with since they don't have the world in their head like I do haha. That being said, words that have to do with humans like actual words and stuff I would be a little :/ about since it's cheating a lil.

You might want to hurry though, this is the very last day I'm accepting entries and I'll probably be judging in like 12 hours

Just out of curiosity, how many babies can they have at a time?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Fumi-LEX In reply to Ferngirl [2015-01-23 22:50:15 +0000 UTC]

Hundreds, they are very large creatures.

HOWEVER
they are very long-lived creatures (like thousands of years maybe?) and only give birth at the very end of their lives, 99% of a levi's siblings will have died before they reach that age. This basically means that a levi coming to the surface to give birth is a pretty rare experience, and most of the time all the levilarvae that are the same age in the nursery are all siblings.
