I just wanted to tell you guys my story of becoming an Atheist.  Agnostic Atheist to be precise.

I'll admit, I started learning about Atheism from the internet.  I like to watch DP and Jacklyn.  But I think it's good to learn these things instead of covering my ears.  My dad did NOT like this.  I'm not allowed to watch YouTube Atheists but I do it anyways.  I should have kept my mouth shut but I never think before I do.  Now they know.

For about a month I would read the Bible and ask my dad questions.  I can't anymore because he gets really mad when I do.  He told me I had a smug look on my face whenever I asked a question he didn't have an answer to and that I was the main reason he got mad.  I doubted he would be able to answer them all but I wasn't trying to start anything.  Most of the time I stay quiet about my Atheism.

A few days ago at my Grandma's house one of them brought up Christianity.  I would have stayed out of it but dad HAD to drag me in.  He still got mad whenever I said anything.  He really wants to change me.  But Grandma and Grandpa were both surprisingly open minded.  I was relieved.  Sometimes they had to interrupt dad because he wouldn't let me answer his questions.  I was told he wants to talk to me about it but he always gets mad and it just makes everything worse.

It was over when they let me believe what I wanted.  I still think I should have shut up from the beginning.  Maybe I just wanted to be wrong about God.  Trust me, I think if God wanted to "save" me he would.  But unless he comes to me in some form or another it's not savior.

I'm sorry that your dad is like this. He, unfortunately, sounds like so many parents that I've heard about before. (Both of my parents are Atheists, somehow) I hate it when parents are intolerant of their childrens views.

Wow.  I'm surprised.  That's cool.  I'm sure my dad will never leave Christianity but it's not like I'm making him.

I know, so am I. Hopefully he'll eventually stop being the way he currently is.

Would it be feasible for you to live with your grandparents? It sounds like everyone would be happier if you could.

Haha I still love my parents.  And my grandparents are just as weird...

Well, as long as you're safe, that's what's most important.

BTW, do you have headphones? You can watch atheists videos without anyone knowing if you use them.

Yeah.  Two.  I'm just at risk of them wanting to see my screen or the earphones breaking on me.

I know what you mean. I hate people looking over my shoulder even when I'm looking at something completely ordinary.

They think it's okay because they're my parents.  Maybe it was a few years ago but I don't know about now.  I'm 16 and I don't think I need to be hidden from the world anymore.

There's also library computers. They usually have headphones too. (using one right now.)

It's never easy to challenge the ideology of your family, but for what it's worth I think you handled it very well. You wished to avoid conflict, but did not cower when challenged or dragged in against your will, you fought with reason against dogma. Fear holds millions in a lifetime of silence, but you spoke up, and stuck with it. Without letting your emotions carry you into cruelty.

If only everyone was as mature. It's common for parents to lash out and feel betrayed. Hopefully your father will soften, but know that his feelings are a reflection of his own struggle with his beliefs, they have nothing to do with you.
