Description read the title before people nag at me about no red lipstick- and dark eye make up on blah blah blah lol

This is only a progress shot of me messing around because quite frankly.. this costume is too much fun!!!!

I still have yet to add the waist fin but that's a WIP at the moment XD! I styled the wig myself by adding wefts using this awesome simple tutorial: [link] by Stealthos-aurion to give the fringe alot more volume than my previous wig add. I used my old wig for the extra wefts to save on money. Mermaid tail I used no pattern what so ever and just got my mom to pin out a guideline around me and cut and sew myself into it. It's a tad baggy by my feet but considering most of the day I'll be in a hire wheelchair it tightens by my feet a bit- so im not fussed. I know the fins are a bit small but because the con (LONDON FILM AND COMIC CON) I'm wearing her to will be INSANELY packed with people, I deliberately made them smaller for safety of costume and safety of other people's sake!
For her shell bra I used my broadway inspired shells and hot glued craft foam onto them to get the right shape (which you cant see in this) covered with purple fabric and then traced the lines of the craft foam with glitter glue! I also put a line of glitter glue on the fins to give it that underwater shimmer effect!

All in all, I'm really pleased with how this costume is coming together as it's my childhood dream to become a mermaid. ^_^ Cant wait to get it finished now!!

Hey,
I could have sworn it was in my favs, but when I looked for it, I was proved wrong! Sorry! But this is tutorial I used for adding wefts into my wigs: [link] If you need the video tutorial on how to style Ariel's bangs (if its Ariel you're doing) then just ask and I'll send you the link to that video on youtube also! ^_^

Yes please, I have tried searching on youtube for a decent tutorial on doing both Ariel's huge fringe and also how to add hair sections from another wig onto the front of mine so I can have a longer fringe to play with, I only have this little poof at the moment becuase the fringe is to short. So I am still waiting for another wig to come, so I can somehow take longer hair sections off that one and add it to this one and compleltey cut the silly little fringe off. I can only find that one tutorial adding hair to the bottom of a wig, which is easy enough, but I need to find a neat and tidy way of adding longer hair sections, so I can create a much bigger poof to my fringe and also how to find a way to keep the fringe raised up in the air without using hair grips. How people do it, I really don't know, I dislake dealing with wigs as you only have to touch them and they friz, even the better quality ones I buy. Though sometimes the better quality wigs are so fine and slippery, I find them absolutley impossible.

I only found Two tutorials on youtube, one was by this strange young lad, though I tried following it and couldn't get any result like hie and another which I have tried asking the perosn, but it goes to fast to see what they are doing, I said they need to do a slower video and perhaps have someone film for them, becuase most shots were out of view going at a speed of 100mph.

I don't know how to post a photo here, but will shortly be putting them on the cosplay website.

Thanks from
Tracy

I dont think any of the Ariel cosplayers manage the keep the bangs up without bobby clips to be honest. I've spoken to alot of them and they ALL use grips. Its all about how you place them in, so their disguised. Using a bobby clip the same color as the wig itself is a really good start.
The video tutorial I used did go quite fast ([link] ), but she does put up font on the video screen to let you know how she's doing it. Buts its basically teasing the hair (back combing it), then neatly brushing it across to get the volume in the bangs, and spray into the 'roots' of the wig to make the hair stay up and over too. Unfortunately a lot of people who cosplay Ariel don't reveal their secrets to how they do the bangs which I personally think is silly. But the main thing is just to have a lot patience with it. But I must stress, it is IMPOSSIBLE to get her bangs poofy and up right without grips, just place them right so some hair falls over them (the main hair. not bangs) and hide the grips completely.

Ok thanks very much, I did see this link to one
[link]

Gosh, I have finished my costume now, we have made the best of the wig. Mum had a go at back combing as she seemed to know how to do it, but on synthetic hair it wouldn't quite play the same game as when she tested it on my own hair. Though we have got there, I have played with it for days and days now, trying to keep spraying it and holding it with grips whilst I sprayed. I bought a stronger hair spray as well.
It is really annoying when people won't help. I feel over the moon when I've been able to help people, it's gives you such a good feeling to know that you've helped, I don't understand some people. I do tutorials for all my costumes, showing as much as I can.
I was even able to help a lady make her Scarlet O hara BBQ Ruffles, she started her dress 10 years ago and like me had so much trouble finding out how to make the ruffles like in the movie.
I only found out by my dad saying have you looked at Spanish ruffles, how they are made, Then I found this tutroial on making circles, then cutting up one side to the centre only, then making about 30 circles and joining them all and Bravo! This lady was absoltuel joyed when I helped her, after 10 years, she can finally finish her dress properly.

I'm sure these experts must know how upsetting it is and frustrating, when all you have is a photo of someone's you really want to make and know matter how many weeks you spend on the wig you just can't do it so end up throwing across the room. All you want is some good clear help. So I am thrilled that you have taken the time to give me some guidance.

When it's finished it will be on cosplay and youtube, i've tried my best. But I need it ready in 3 weeks time for my costume exhibit.

Thanks again

i looove the dark eye makeup..i always say that when doing cosplay it isnt necessarily important to be completely accurately dressed/made up- it's the challenge of pushing creativity to its furthest extent that makes for the most intriguing costumes. I say this makeup definately works for ya!

P.S GREAT WIG!

Haha thanks but my make up isn't part of the costume. That's just my normal make up and this photo is just a WIP photo. I was too excited to try my tail on for size and take photos to show people, and didn't bother changing my make up. ^_^

For Ariel I do go for a more natural make up but with a thick-ish line of black eyeliner to make help give me that animated black eyelashes look just to define them with a plumping mascara.

Thanks for the comment on the wig! I dont think I'll ever be happy with my fringe!

That's ok ^^

I had planned on going back to catch a train at three (on my own all day lol x_x), but I'm glad I waited around for the masquerade to start and for the skit afterwards, I enjoyed it a lot :3

I think I have a picture of you and Mr Sparrow I uploaded today, my vantage point for pictures got compromised at the end so there may be a few heads in it but yeah XD

Like the way it's coming together - the makeup just looks like the last step! (Maybe a bit of blush too - that's what I've seen the lady herself wear.) Go get 'em, Cez! (Faves and recommends)

Thank you! I didn't really bother with my make up, as I just wanted to do a quick test wear of the actual costume XD! As for make up I try to keep it accurate to the actual film instead of the park version XD, but thats just me! LOL!

Thank you very much for the compliments and recommendations on the progress! It's now finished, but I need to seal the glitter on the fins round the waist first, and then I'm gonna try and not wear it until the event itself where I'll be doing a comedy skit with a friend who's being Jack Sparrow ^_^ So hopefully I'll get some good photos of the two of us too!

I understand. How's it been with the cosplay scene and with the audition process? I've also got some new stuff if you wanted to take a look.

The cosplay scene has been good so far- been hectic for me- i dont seem to have a break form costume making at the moment, but hopefully after July I'll have a good break from it al but I cant really complain much considering it's been keeping my spirits up as I went through a low patch not long ago. I'm waiting for the next lot of london auditions to come round at the moment ^_^.

Ooh I'll have to check them out later when I have more time on here. ^_^

Glad to hear you're feeling better. Hope you break through with the next round! I'll be in the frying pan with you again sooner rather than later, I think - I'm now seeing if I can't land a good-paying full time role after finishing school.
