Hopefully nobody considers it a miscategorization to place this in self-portraits, because you're right in that it's tough to tell it's just on the stand. By extension, I know that after enough time in armor, you begin indeed to consider it a part of yourself. I think the category is appropriate, and even original in itself.
This kit has clearly seen a lot of use, even with the black and white disguising the rust, "use" being synonymous with "love."
The focus and depth of field are good, and the off-center composition is well done as well. What really makes it in my opinion, though, is the contrast. It helps make the picture pop, and exposes every little imperfection in the armor, either by manufacture or by wear and tear. And while not as aesthetic in some ways as a brand new piece, it has so much personality to it. Every dent tells a story, and an exciting one at that. Very well done. A great photograph to describe a great subject.

Thank ye kindly! The shot was taken at the Melbourne Medieval Fair and Tourney, an annual living history fair held in late November about 30 minutes away from my house. Our business, Days of Knights, presents there every year.

Heh. There are some days I consider adopting armor as work wear...

It has it drawbacks. 34kg is a lot to have to wear!

My full kit weighs a tad over 34kg. Out of armour I weigh 68kg, so it is half my weight. I've worn it for hours in the Australian summer, and I lose kilograms of sweat.
I would love to do some of the European medieval events. It is quite bizarre doing medieval history in a country settled by whites for only 230 years!

There are a couple of living history villages in Norway I know of. I'm one of the company's owners, and it's a lot of hard work running a business, but at least we get to do what we enjoy.

That's awesome. Where in Norway are they, if I may ask? I can't recall ever having heard of any...

btw, have you ever heard of Norwegian band Gazpacho? I've just been listening to their latest album, "Tick-tock". It is great.

It can be... I get pretty bruised and battered at times, have the occasional bone broken and the wear and tear on the body of 34kg (75lbs) of armor when you weigh 68kg (150lbs) is interesting, but it is loads of fun!
