I've been trying to make a picture catalogue of my kimono collection for insurance and organization needs, and I thought I might put it up here for everyone's amusement (and in case my other copies of it get lost).

This is an early Showa period black crested furisode, or a very formal long-sleeved kimono from the late 1930-40s. Furisode are kimono that are worn by unmarried women. Modern furisode are the most formal kimono an unmarried woman can wear, but it used to be that a furisode in and of itself did not equal the height of formality for a young lady. The most formal of furisode was made on a black background and given five crests, essentially becoming the unmarried equivalent of the kurotomesode. Furisode of this style were so formal that they were often used as a woman's wedding kimono. I've been wanting this style of kimono for a long time, but they are highly collectable. They usually go for lots of money, but the person who sold this one listed it rather obscurely and I was able to win the auction unopposed.

For a name, I decided to use Kahou, combining the kanji for lustrous and mythical bird.
