Description During May I took a family vacation to Japan, in which we visited Tokyo and Kyoto (and stayed in Osaka). I had lived in Japan when I studied abroad two years ago, but it was my family's first time there. As such, I largely took them to touristy sites, some of which I had already seen.

One of the places I really wanted to see again was the city of Kamakura. I visited it before because it was famous for so many temples, and I really fell in love with the city's charm. I had to see it again.

There is a small chaya, a tea shop, at the end of the bamboo grove where people can sit and enjoy the scenery while sipping matcha. It was what I remembered most about my first trip to Kamakura, and it was what I wanted to share the most with my family. I really enjoyed being able to return and relive this relaxing memory.

The tea and sweet are served on a tray of Kamakura-bori, a type of carving and lacquerware indigenous to the city. I'm extremely fond of it, and when I visited North Kamakura both times I purchased Kamakura-bori hair ornaments from a shop outside of Kencho-ji called Ryuugeju.

This temple is very beautiful, and I love the little candies they serve with the tea.

Hokoku-ji is one of the most beautiful and serene temples I've ever visited. If I ever get a chance to go back to Kamakura, I'd go see it for a third time .

You should definitely visit Kamakura! I would suggest visiting early in the morning and spending the whole day there, since many of the temples close early (around 4:30-5:00PM). My family vacation ended up only being a week, and I was disappointed that it couldn't be longer. I really would have wanted two to three weeks.
