It makes more sense to me that demons are beautiful rather than ugly. And I don't mean the beautiful that becomes ugly when they're about to attack or something.

Evil is known for manipulating, right? And a majority of humans would believe a beautiful face over an ugly one. So why the hell would they be ugly? And it makes no sense that a demon would TURN into a frightening image just before they kill. Scaring someone isn't "evil". I think a demon would find more joy in fucking someone up mentally, so far to the point that when their victim sees beautiful things, that person can no longer enjoy it. Because the beautiful demon did such horrible things to them.

This demon stays handsome throughout whatever evil deed he's bestowing upon his victims' person.

Fantastic work. I'm fascinated with the supernatural and metaphysical aspects of reality, and your insightful concept of demons being beautiful is extremely interesting, and in my opinion, dead on.
You've explained your view perfectly, and defined your intention behind creating a superb work of art. I believe it is the many, if not infinite, unseen aspects of existence such as your mention of demons
"fucking someone up mentally" that we are focusing on more so than appearance alone. Our minds are expanding to understand new concepts, and we are grasping more of what reality is.
We're defining these unseen forces, manifesting psychological and even deeper mental (dare I say spiritual) forces as an aesthetic form, and we are doing this through the power of art.
All true art attempts to capture the unseen, and give it form. You have done this beautifully.

Pardon me for going so deep with this, but these issues have been heavy on my mind for some time. And I feel that they matter, and are worth discussion, as well as depiciton.
As an artist myself, I am struggling with how to articulate them, but i must say, you certainly inspire me! This is just...stunning.

Please, continue creating these amazing visions of what reality is just beneath the curtain!
I hope we are not too far off from beholding things such as what you have drawn here with our naked eyes.

Technically demons are spirits, which means that they don't have physical bodies. So when they choose to reveal themselves (in a way humans can see) demons can take any form they wish.

On the other hand the Bible does say that Satan takes the form of an "Angel of Light"... figuratively.

Technically, demons are fictional creatures and can be whatever someone wishes.

Why mention that religion? Β "demon" is not exclusive to that religion. Nor did I make this piece with that in mind (though I was aware people would most likely see it as such, and are welcome to it if they like: though I do hate that conditioned imagination). Β

I meant no offence, I stated my view you stated yours.

Because I wished to express my views. You specifically mentioned that it would make more sense for demons to manifest themselves similarly to angels. In Biblical canon demons are fallen angels, so, case in point, you mentioned it first.

No offence at all! Just a friendly convo: I was/ am honestly just curious.

"You specifically mentioned that it would make more sense for demons to manifest themselves similarly to angels": Is that so....Where did I mention "angels"? Quote me exactly please, cause I can't find it. Before I made that last reply, I specifically looked over my comment to check if I mentioned it, and I didn't. So..."specifically" you say?

No worries. If you did find me mention that, I would've been like "fuck, I'm one of those selective seeing type of hypocrites, noooooo...". Or you have eyes that see beyond our dimension: And then I'll be jealous.

Its not selective seeing its just that most people (like me) have little to no exposure to other cultures. (I blame Western narcissism.)

PS: It really is a beautiful demon.

You got me kinda curious now (hope ya don't mind): what does that have to do with anything? I'm not saying you can't see that if you want. It's certainly up to the interpretation of the viewer.

Β I'm just saying that's not my perception of it, even while doing it. Though I was aware most people are still conditioned to see that euro view of that religion.

Glad you dig though.

I saw this and was like "I need to read why they did this" and I have to say... I love you. I don't know you, but I love you now... because I had debated with with a super christian before... it was a random thought I had and I wanted to explain why it would make sense that they would look more like how we think Angels look... and... well everything you said right there...

Β I feel with how humans are, looking beautiful would be much easier to corrupt and turn people your way, since we've proven time and again humans will pretty much do anything for a pretty face... so why not make an effort to be beautiful and get all the people you want to become evil, while looking ugly would only get those who would be already on the path to evil in some way, because I feel like those that would give you a shot despite your ugliness, would already be a decent person and hard to corrupt to evil unless you go with the "The road to hell is paved with good intention" policy?Β

First I'd like to say this is a pretty good picture.

Β Say, have you thought about doing an inversion piece where the being appears sinister & threatening but is as kind & gentle as can be?Β

Β

It wouldn't have to be a demon but just a being who is just as powerful as your demon but who personality-wise isΒ benignΒ & clement.

Anyway, this is just a suggestion if & whenever you feel you want to do a follow-upΒ piece.Β

No, I have no interest in such a common, direct, Ying and Yang: The direct opposite to this guy would be too cliche for my tastes. But it is one of many Ying and Yang concepts I'm toying with in my comic i.pity.me.

rakaru [2012-11-09 02:22:29 +0000 UTC]

The demons don't looks ugly because of the deeds they have done, generally, demons physical forms (assuming they have one, of course) would reflect its spirit, and since an evil spirit wouldn't look to good, they are ugly.
And if you are talking about the demons whom used to be angels, they were made ugly by their god.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

fydbac In reply to rakaru [2012-11-09 05:32:03 +0000 UTC]

I think it's misplaced to state your personal view as fact: Especially concerning fictional beings. You're welcome to your view of course But please don't state your opinion on a fictional creature as fact. That's why I used first person wording such as, "I think,.." and "to me..."

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rakaru In reply to fydbac [2012-11-09 13:50:41 +0000 UTC]

Im not... It says in the bible why demons are ugly, but I guess I just assumed you were talking about the christian demons, my mistake.
Love your art, by the way.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

fydbac In reply to rakaru [2012-11-09 17:42:51 +0000 UTC]

I think it's clear I was talking about all general versions of demons being ugly: so Christian demons are no exception. The Bible too is largely a fictional book, so it's demons are simply it's own version. And I was stating my own version, not trying to argue anyone else's.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rakaru In reply to fydbac [2012-11-09 19:54:07 +0000 UTC]

I remember reading this book once a long time ago, basically where this girl had to solve these puzzles to save an island. Anyway, there were these two entities. One was a gentle, beautiful woman with a lovely singing voice and just extrudes calmness. The other was this angry old man in this dirty old robe and carried around these very cruel looking sickles and knives, just hanging from his belt. There's a point in the book where the two entities and the girl are basically in the same room and she has to decide which one to give some object to. (oh, I failed to mention that the old man has been sort of guiding her from the beginning, only minus the weapons) So in the end the girl trusts the old guy and it's supposed to be not all evil and all good looks like they're supposed to and blah blah blah.

TL;DR: I love this image and the way you played around with traditional evil types. :3

I don't like doing this to folks: but I'm afraid your entire comment has too many grammatical errors. I had to read it a couple of times to get the gest of what you were trying to say.

Anyway...I think it'll be more interesting if it was the other way around; the "evil" being solid, and the "good" being without a body. I hate how some religions make "evil" to be inferior to "good", so I don't care much for bibles. Either way, I'll go with my own renditions.

This makes absolute perfect sense if you look at the angels of two fiction series: Neon Genesis Evangelion (anime and manga) and "The Mortal Instruments" Series and prequel "The Infernal Devices"(literature).

Although, there are no demons to speak of in NGE. To know what I'm talking about, you would need to have read the books by Cassandra Clare.
