Tattoo design sketchbook project: shigeki.zumi: ballpoints vol.01 (pending title)
Medium: ballpoint pen
I hate the "waves" in this.

PLEASE don't ask to use. Be inspired, but do not copy in anyway. If you want to buy the original work, I don't know if I'll be selling them. If I do, I'll make a journal. Please don't ask when, as I don't know But your interest is appreciated.

Again, Please don't ask to use. If you want a tattoo design, please look through my commission info page: fydbac.wordpress.com/commissio…

These are all at least 1-3 years old. Numbered in the order I did them (the lower the number = the older it is). Have about 4 or 5 even newer ones, which I'll post later. STILL intend to do the book though.

These designs are basically what I'd love to tattoo, and what I intend to have my future tattooing portfolio be filled with. Currently looking for a shop or booth to rent. I'll post a journal about that soon. Will be really putting in work once I move residency.

I GREATLY look forward to get back into tattooing!

It's my version of a youkai koi or something. Real koi represent "love", and other corny shit like that.

Is it a sketch for a koi fish tattoo?

I must implore you again, read the description box (and the title).
"tattoo sketchbook" is in the title. And it looks like a fish. So you answered your own question.
Unless you meant: "Is it a koi?" or "Was it used for an actual tattoo?":

Nice drawing as always. How about practicing some finger waves like how Jeff Gogue does them? I think them will fit your style well

fydbac In reply to Sylkvass [2014-03-12 23:04:31 +0000 UTC]

finger waves? Oh, ..I think I know what you mean. Never knew their name. Is that the official name?

I could have sworn I mentioned this in the description of this piece but: I hate how I did the waves here. Even while doing them, I thought they were stupid. Only reason I posted this, is because my like of the koi was big enough. Saying that, this piece is several years old. And I've grown since this.

And though I do love that artists work, like "In love" with it (been trying to get on his list actually), I'm not one to try and emulate someone elses style on purpose. Though I've seen that type of wave in other artists I admire...I don't mind if the waves I do are in the same zone as that general style, but...I want my own twist on it.

I'm currently on the path of trying to reinvent my tattoo design style. The latest practice is the most recent dragon piece in the folder (I dig the waves there, but the dragon itself is boring to me).

Anyway, thank you for the kind words Please be sure to check the submission date on these things when you comment though.

Finger waves is the term used for those kinds of japanese waves. It might be slang created in the west tho.

I love Jeffs style, thats why I refer to him. I know your capable to do your own thing, but I guess some inspiration doesnt hurt.

The dragon was cool, and the waves was better then on the koi

Talking about inspiration:

"Some inspiration doesn't hurt" Hahaha, for me it does, even though I would never deny or shy away from it when it happens. I just realized that now. Too much to explain that out but...that's the very general jist.

About the video: I actually stumbled upon that month ago I think. I remember because I watched about a minute before jumping around on the time frame a bit before closing it. I enjoy learning just by watching someone, but if I feel I'm on the verge of figuring things out on my own, I try to stay clear of things that could...corrupt that journey for me. If that makes any sense.

I watched a little bit further this time, to about the switch from orange to yellow highlighter, and that "S" approach is in the same fold of what I've been doing.

Oh, and thanks for verifying the waves in the dragon is better: although I think damn near anything would be better than the ones from that koi, hahaha

I'm taking your allowable regulation of "Be inspired, but do not copy in anyway" and am thus inspired by this fishy sketch to work a new design for my guitar beautification project! An aggressive kool-koi seems fitting for an electric guitar design don't you think? It'll be a telecaster type guitar set up for slide play.

fydbac In reply to Ashinson [2012-11-07 18:09:34 +0000 UTC]

Have fun Inspiration isn't something one "allows", I don't think one can control it. It's jus some folks don't know the difference between inspired, and copying.
hahaha, I'm ignorant on guitars, so have no idea what you're referring to. It doesn't matter though

Ashinson In reply to fydbac [2012-11-07 18:14:39 +0000 UTC]

I bought a junky guitar off craigslist, sanded it down to the wood and am currently drawing stuff on the body & neck, then my plan is to wood-burn the sketch on it, maybe add a little colored ink if needed, lacquer it, and put it back together and finally play the thing

I'll try to send you a few progress links to show

I can't explain how expressive your drawing is to me.
The expression of the koi, the lines of his 'face' and the marks in his tail, showing the amount of years lived, and the combination of color... it's just amazing.
And sorry, but I loved the waves, and I can imagine how hard it was to be drawn it.
Congratulations!!
