Description

Here, all in one place, are the main characters (and a few minor ones) in my fantasy land of Kozosht. This is the court of Prince Amurin, Emperor Temporal of Kozosht.

From right to left the characters are:

Dolfin

Former apprentice of Myhran, Dolfin is now Amurin's court wizard and the youngest person ever to achieve this title. The vestments taken on from his master have turned from green to burnt umber, and even the staff has darkened—it seems Dolfin may not be quite the tree-hugging wood elf of his mentor.

Myhran

Former court wizard, Myhran is now Archmage of the Kozosht Empire. He was master of the present court wizard, Dolfin.

Sydo and Marcus, Viscounts Gray

Commonly known as The Grays, or the Gray Twins, although they are not twins as Sydo is the elder by a year.  They may have widely differing styles, but they have much in common: they are both clever, devious, ruthless—not to mention "mad, bad and dangerous to know". Together they run an underworld empire with tendrils that extend throughout the city of Kozosht".

Despite their not being twins, they were both born on the same day of the year, the 13th of Undecimber, and although only one brother can be a viscount, they declare themselves both Viscount Gray. Their father, Earl Gray, is not responsible for any blend of tea.

Hubert

Hubert de Maksa is diplomat at the imperial court, representing his home country, Nairn, a small nation on the north-eastern tip of the continent. See Jack Masa, his brother, below.

Amurin

His Imperial Highness Prince Amurin is Emperor Temporal (also known as Emperor Corporeal) of the Kozosht Empire. Unlike his father, the Emperor Spiritual, he has a physical presence.

Jack The Cat

Jack “The Cat” Maksa is court fool and concubine to Prince Amurin. He is half human, half ailurid elf. Ailurid elves are somewhat cat-like creatures originally from the south of Nighe, but Jack was born in Nairn, where there has been a settlement of ailurid elves for centuries. See Hubert, above.

Piquezel

Prince Piquezel is the youngest child of the Emperor Spiritual of Kozosht and brother to Amurin. He is reclusive and little is known about him. He habitually wears a carnival mask, except at state occasions.

Salutari

Archduke Salutari Vitalis of Dani-Velesht— possibly the most powerful man in Kozosht after the Prince Amurin. Dani-Velesht is the largest country in the empire by far, being approximately twice the size of Kozosht itself.

Gregarius

Consort to Archduke Salutari Vitalis.

I could not agree more. The Prince is his customary god-like handsome self but for some reason, young Dolfin has tickled my fancy. WWL

Oh, this is a really gorgeous picture, Fyra!  How wonderful to see all your handsome characters lined up like this, showing off their own unique personalities and amazing outfits. I think the one I find the most beautiful is Myhran, but it's really difficult to decide.

That gold brocade mantle or gown you gave Myhran is fabulous in colour and intricacy of design. Source? The body jewelry on Dolfin has also been exquisitely done. Have these a clan meaning or significance? My best, WWL

Yes, even this old fashioned gent knows there are programs commercially available to digital and 3D artists, all beyond me, of course. But you used these programs so deftly that both Myhran and Dolfin appear as seamless wholes, not composites. While my judgment must, on the whole, still rate the Prince as your handsomest character, Myhran is no slouch in the looks department, either! Its too bad that I was blocked from accessing Luka's page as she was teaching me a lot about the Drow and kindred fantasy beings, of which I knew very little. I've been trying to find out more about Legolas the Elven Prince, who was featured in those relatively recent Warner Bros. Tolkein movies. Oh, and I plan to work on a better avatar, one that portrays one of my Romanovsky MALES this time. FYI, due to having access to DA through library computers, they may be shutting down for a few weeks due to this damnable virus situation. My best, WWL

A very impressive "line up" of this Court, Fyra. Turned out well, your characters have been well distinguished from each other but still have enough kinship so that one could picture them all working fairly harmoniously. Where did you get the idea for Salutari? From the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria? "Gregarius" is a charming name for a courtier. Like Shakespeare, could this group portrait be thought a "dramatis personae"? All in all a really stunning piece of artwork, young man. WWL

You are most welcome, Fyra. Yes, the closer, Austrian origin for arch duke is indeed of Ost Reich source but the term 'duke' or "ducas" itself goes back to Byzantine times. Years ago, my late father owned an English yearly young person's bound magazine entitled CHATTERBOX. In almost every volume there was featured what became known as a "Ruritarian" mystery or adventure yarn entailing characters from some central European duchy or principality. These were quite avidly read by young people and their parents and became a literary genre unto themselves.

Yes, I picked up on those latinate monikers. But what source did you use for Prince Amurin himself? Gaming or your own invention? And for Dolfin? A rather good looking young man by the way, with a mane like a Romanovsky! Yes, there are more than a few websites and YT videos concerning fantasy races or characters. Many of them seem derived from Tolkein and other fantasists or mythology, whether Greek or Nordic. My best, WWL

Interesting that this old Ruritarian literary genre, that my late father read in the late Twenties and early Thirties, has become a trope! This proves that its possible to remake old prototypes into forms relatable to today's young readers. The "dime novels" published weekly, and of course the adventure Pulps, often printed such yarns, as you can read in any article delving into the background of Lovecraft.

Its almost an exercise in futility to search for or try to invent a TOTALLY original name. Glad that your incredibly handsome Prince is original with you, though the name you chose for him has kinship to a Finnish moniker. You will notice that there is NOT much originality in the names of my characters. On another tact, does the appearance of your characters primarily reflect your own tastes or are you just following older games or fantasy norms?

To me, "Kozosht" has a somewhat Slavic, Ural Mountains ring to it. Agreed about the indebtedness of modern role playing games like D & D owing much to Lord of the Rings. When I was still working, two coworkers at the store, Melissa and Skipper, were MUCH into D & D and occasionally attended gatherings for the like-minded. A bit fey for yours truly, though I did correspond a bit with members of the MIT Gaming Society, of which Gary G. was a sometime member. That was rather a long time ago now.

I’d like to see you write a story set in Kozosht, I know this is a lot of comments, if there was an edit function there wouldn’t be.

I thought about this and is “no longer exists in bodily form” just a roundabout way of saying he died?
