Aww. This is so cute. Fluttershy is singing to the birds. This suits her character very well.

These pencil sketches are awesome. Wish more Animation studios would go back to doing an ENTIRE animation in drawings instead of using puppet animation software. (And before anyone says anything YES i am fully aware MLP was done with vector puppets in flash.)

Well, this version's personality fits her name 65% better than the original G3 character, where the name came from, which was a photographer that loves window shopping...
Yeah, I know, that's just strange and weird... no fluttering or... shyness... or anything that resembles that name.

Her original name was Posey, a pony from g1.

I always thought it would have made more sense for Fluttershy to be an earth pony with a special talent like hers, what with earth ponies being so connected to nature.

It makes sense, just like Pinkie having wings... but she wouldn't have had as strong as a character as an Earth Pony, and neither would Pinkie with wings.

If she didn't originally have wings, why was she called Fluttershy? If she has no wings, she can hardly flutter.

The original Fluttershy toy from G3 was also an Earth Pony. She was named with a rearrangement of 'shutter-fly' (as in 'shutterbug' - somebody who likes using a camera) and had a photography hobby. It had nothing to do with the ability to fly; the butterfly cutie mark was there mostly because of the new name's sound.

Hmm while that is a good explanation as to why fluttershy is so uncomfortable flying, I don't think she would have lived in cloudsdale and never have been to ponyville before her cutie mark Had one of her parents been an earth pony :/

Maybe they had a fight, and the mother/father (who ever was a pegasus) moved to Cloudsdale so they could never see eachother again.
