I tweeted to the official SNK PLAYMORE (Playmore Corporation) twitter about putting this outfit I designed for Athena in The King of Fighters XIV, but it sadly did not make the cut. Playmore instead gave Athena a totally different outfit that has no pigtails or yukata. Since no other kimono girls are part of the roster, the game will be launched and released with no kimono girls at all (unfortunately).Since Athena Asamiya has the most number of outfits in KOF history, changing from game to game, I decided to do a costume that differs a lot from the previous outfits. This time, she wears a red yukata with stars decorated. Athena mainly had her long hair down the previous games, but 2006 (Maximum Impact 2) had her hair in double buns (1P side) and in a ponytail (2P side). This time, I gave Athena pigtails, because KOF series doesn't really have that much pigtailed characters. Her hairband and fingerless gloves remain, and I gave her geta sandals to go with the yukata. With this outfit, Athena will be the first KOF female to wear a pair of geta (unless you count Ninon Beart from 2006).
I made extra changes once more. This time, her bangs from KOFXIV gets used, retaining the pigtails. I made an additional change so her hairband has a bow with a star on the tie.

Guys: Kimonos were made so that women wouldn't get raped by neighboring villagers when they fought over territory. They are super tight around the legs and hips, making it impossible to walk at a normal pace. The video bellow is about the manners a women is supposed to exhibit in a kimono like this one. You would not be able to fight with it. You would literally have to rip the kimono to even run in it.
While the design is very nice, and I like what you did with her hair, I can't see anyone being able to fight in such a kimono. It is thick layered silk, wrapped tightly in such a manner that is designed to make women look plain and accentuate their manners rather than their body.

A yukata is a lighter, but very tight, less formal clothing- It's like a prom dress compared to a wedding dress. You still can't really run or fight in it without breaking the fabric.

Thanks for the tip. Though kimonos give people restrictions on movement, I actually gave the character a yukata, but made some extra stuff so the restrictions would be less sensitive, allowing more free movement.
I will be honest in making an in-depth costume outline a bit in the future before SNK PLAYMORE confirms Athena for KOF XIV. The outline would make people not worry much about Athena fighting in the yukata.

That'd be a nice outfit for a summer stroll or after a hot bath, but it's not suitable martial arts wear.

I respect your opinion, but I think KOF is lacking fighters in kimonos. Kasumi, Geese, and Ninon are there, but I just wish there's more. Since Athena changes outfits each game, unlike other characters, I designed one that sets apart from Athena's outfits, including the pigtails and the geta.

Geese and Kasumi wear Aikidogi with Hakama, it's martial arts wear, unlike an Yukata or your standard kimono. Maybe if Athena's Yukata's length was shortened it would be better, otherwise she wouldn't be able to kick and you know Athena is all about that Forward+B.

SNK PLAYMORE ended up rejecting my yukata design after so many tweets I did to them. They gave her a completely different outfit that somewhat resembles Sailor Mars' outfit and I do not like it.
Due to that, I will produce another yukata for Athena, but it will be for a future KOF sequel following XIV and will fix the problems this yukata had.

What is your problem? It's a yukata. It's a bathing robe. Not martial arts wear. I don't think it's a suitable outfit for a fighting game character.. That's just my opinion.

Its like a robe so basically yea you could move with it on . I sew so I could basically theres a slit between (so its like a jacket with a belt
