Statues with large penises depicted vulgar creatures or men and stood for lack of self control or lust most of the times. You often see satyrs, the god pan and priapous with a huge penis. In fact those statues have such large penises it is hilarious and obviously meant to shock and amuse.
"Serious" and civilised gentlemen have small, flacid and well-formed penises most of the times on ancient statues and those of the renaissance inspired by ancient art.

I know the answer. Penises were collectible items in the antiquity. Sculptors opted for small ones in order to avoid theft and damage. Some custom-made statues had detachable penises to suit all tastes.

You can't really judge it when its down. The media promotes such a need for a ridiculously big dick.
It's really annoying how many people think that a dick is suppose to be over 7-inches like they see in a Porno. People didn't seem to care back then, and not to mention that the Greeks & Romans were some of the best lovers and great in bed. The Saxons were and still are known to have bigger dicks, who cares!
Now day's, people have been influenced by the media and this whole "image & size counts" bullshit etc. The average penis is said to be 5 & a half inches (when erect), 6-inches is a good size and preferred by most woman, and 7-inches is just a bonus, anything else is just oversize.
Look at old artwork and you'll see the difference compared to the exaggerations of penises today enhanced by penis enlargement operations, pills and treatment.
I'm guessing that this guys dick would be around 6-inches when erect, some people have a thing were their penis looks small when its down, even more when its cold, but the size actually makes a dramatic change once erect. Its the thickness that counts anyway, and a woman's pleasure comes more from her clit, not much from the inside anyway. The feeling of the inside is like rubbing the roof of your mouth. Its how a man uses it that counts.

The Greeks liked small uncut penis while Romans tended to like large and cut penises. But the Romans tend to have a meat head personality in general and the Greeks pride was in knowledge.

Well, for one, David was a pre-adolescent/just-reaching-adolescence boy. He was 12 or 13 or somewhere around that age.
But also...I've heard that apparently the Greeks/Romans/whatever fought and defeated another army and after defeating them they found that the enemy men had larger penises than them, on average. So they deemed smaller penises to be sexy and masculine and whatnot and portrayed it in their art.
