Description Continuing to experiment with Maya.  I still plan to continue the SARA series, but you know that artists feel like they always want to tackle new things and can't stay comfortable working on the same thing for long. Plus, I have interest in learning all I can with the software with characters.  I don't really care if something is "advanced"- I see artists on there do great stuff with 3D programs all the time, so this has taken up a lot of time I usually do for payable drawings, Miko comics, and other things.  I even watched tutorials online.

Here is a standard sexy girl.  Could be retro fitted to resemble of the Bleach "Boobie" girls in the future.  I also wanna model Kon someday, who I imagine to be relatively simple.  ... Oh! OR MIKO can be in CGI and she'd do the vlog-style comic movie reviews this way!

For the tech heads: Polygonal meshes with a polygonal gray back drop.  Tongue and teeth objects are there.  Nothing is rigged yet except for the eyes, which are controlled by aim constraints with NURB circles- that is how she is able to look at the camera. White-yellow ambient light with 2 directional lights. Pupils and irises are made using a ramp into the shader, and then the irises are stretched vertically by altering the vertices, so they're not perfectly circular.  Eyelashes and lips are colored using a second shader onto selected faces- I still have to play with hair objects.  Because the colors aren't yet controlled by an image file, I cannot figure out how to paint colors onto them, like a blush.  Image maps may be the only way. Skin is blinn with a faint specular highlight, and an additional ramp node for a faint highlight over her edges, to make the form more pronounced.

Nicely done. Will probably be great for pose referencing.

Looking good, man. Who would guess you would do 3D? ^^

I did 3D before.  3D backgrounds can be seen all the way back in like Chapter 5, and in some pin-ups.

I know how that is. Many manga drawing tools have been using 3D backdrops for years, but people don't know or notice it. It's a big timesaver. ^^

I hate how LONG it takes to just build a character though. It takes half of that time to just paint weights!  Now I know why Maya is built for multiple people instead of an individual!

You don't have to do it in Maya. You can rig these models in Poser or DS, which are dedicated to human figures, and offer a streamlined way to get things done in a simpler and faster. Poser 11 ships with Blender3D's Cycles renderer, and DAZ Studio ships with NVidia's I-ray renderer. I model in 3DSMAX, but do all my rigging and character work in Poser. You still have to paint weights, but Poser is dedicated to character work, so it's much quicker to do.

Poser is around over a hundred $ depending on the version and how you purchase it.  Also, my operating system on my home computer is 10.8, which does not support Poser.

You can also get started risk-free with DAZ Studio, which is free but it has a steeper learning curve due to lack of documentation. It can do the same as Poser in many areas, and you can render with i-ray, which has also become the new default renderer for 3DSMAX.

Aaaaand now I got an email saying Dropbox will discontinue its app on 10.8 systems come january.

I NEED to get a new operating system. And possibly a new computer.  But I spent most of my immediate savings on the recent move.

Indeed, moving tends to be costly.

Yeah you mentioned Poser before.  I'll look into it.
