Part 4: Poor, Poor, Rigley.

If he remembered correctly, from what Mike said, the next thing to do was to…ask her out on something that Mike called a “date.” Rigley still wasn’t sure what it was; all he knew that it consisted of going to a place that they both liked. Hmm…where to go...He thought about giving her a tour of the spaceship fleet, but they’d already been on one that lasted eight hours (no way either of them would go through that again). Maybe they could visit Planet Paion? Yeah, that had to be it. He could probably show her around the place where he used to live and train. Yeah, she’d like that for sure.

With that, he then decided to fly to Team Pecha as casually as he could. Approaching them from the side was the best way to go here. Flying from the front felt too direct (and scary), and he didn’t want to shock them too much by approaching from behind.

Amy looked up and smiled. “Oh, hey Rigley! Great timing. You here to help us plant this stuff around the village, too?”

“Yeah!” he replied, wondering if he was being too obvious or not. “They told all of us that back at the clubhouse. Here, let me help!”

As he helped to lift some of the plants into the holes left behind by Darren and cover the inserted plants with dirt, it didn’t look like Amy or Chikorita suspected anything…but then he noticed that Ralts was staring at him with an odd expression on her face.

Rigley groaned inwardly. It had been so long since he last seen Ralts that he forgot that she could sniff out people’s feelings a mile away. Not wanting her to mess up his act, he silently glared at her. Luckily, she seemed to get the hint and turned away immediately.

Of course, Ralts was more familiar with these sorts of things than anyone else in the group, as she had constantly been exposed to the feelings of practically everyone in Tao Village all her life. Many people in Tao Village experienced various aspects of romance, from first crushes to breakups, all in varying degrees of intensity depending on the people involved. As such, she could tell that Rigley’s situation was on the extremely light end of the romantic scale (if it was on it at all), so she wasn’t worried. At the same time, though, she also knew that the quickest way for people’s emotions to go from good to bad was to mention something about it, so she would’ve kept her mouth shut anyway.

Just then, Chikorita noticed someone in the distance and looked up. It was a Meganium wearing a beautiful sun hat (with holes for her antennae). She seemed to be breathing on the dead plants in Tao Woods, which seemed weird…until Chikorita also saw that those plants were coming back to life.

“Whoa…” she gasped, before leaving everyone else and breaking into a run to meet this Meganium. She just had to find out how in the world the Meganium was doing that, and how it was possible.

“Chikorita? Hey, wait! Where are you going!?” shouted Amy, who then ran after Chikorita. This was one of the very few times Chikorita had willingly run away from her. Chikorita, who always grew tense and jittery if Amy were to leave her alone like that! This must be something major, and right then, Amy noticed the Meganium. Yeah, it was Chikorita’s final evolved form, but what was so special…and then she noticed the Meganium breathing on the plants, bringing them back to life, and then she too wanted to find out how that was possible.

Rigley was slightly disappointed that he was interrupted before he could make his offer, but he figured that he’d get a chance later, and besides, there seemed to be something unusual about this Meganium. Ralts followed after them all.

As for Bisharp and Lipless, they didn’t even notice. Bisharp just continued to lie down and relax in the middle of the field, soaking up the suns’ rays, while Lipless started planting Enigma Berries in all the holes that Darren was making before being yelled at and chased by PK.

“Hey! Excuse me!” shouted Chikorita.

The Meganium in the sun hat turned around in surprise.

“Sorry, I just saw what you were doing, and I’m just really curious about how you’re doing that,” gasped Chikorita.

“Oh! I’m surprised you don’t know, since you’re a Chikorita and all. Us Meganium can bring dead plants back to life just by breathing on them. And there’s so many of them here…” She sighed sadly. “Didn’t your parents teach you that?”

“Oh, no…” Chikorita’s voice trailed away. “I hatched on some beach far away from here, and they were nowhere to be seen…”

“Oh dear! I’m so sorry! I had no idea, really!”

By now, Amy, Rigley, and Ralts had caught up, yet they managed to catch the last few sentences of the conversation.

“Oh, are these your friends?” asked the Meganium.

“Yeah. They’re Amy, Rigley, and Ralts. My name’s Chikorita! We’re all helping everyone plant stuff so we can help make this village pretty again.”

“Pleased to meet you all! My name’s Venus, but you can all call me Mrs. Venus.” Then the Meganium blinked in surprise. “But wait. Chikorita? Ralts? Oh, I’m sorry…you two probably never got to choose your name, either…”

“It’s okay. I’m used to it,” said Chikorita, smiling.

“Me too!” said Ralts. “But I can’t help but get the feeling that I already have some other name…”

“You think we can help plant some of our plants here, Mrs. Venus?” asked Amy.

Venus smiled. “I don’t see why not! My tribe’s going to need all the help they can get. We’ve recently arrived to check out this Tao Village for a bit, but we can’t possibly leave so soon after seeing the village like this. We want to do everything we can, too!”

As Chikorita started asking questions about Venus and her tribe, Rigley decided that this would be a good time to ask Amy. “Hey, uh…Amy?” he asked. “You doing anything important tonight or so?”

“Well, we still have to help everyone get these plants in the ground…” she replied. “Why? Is something happening?”

“Oh! Nothing, really…it’s just that…” he trailed off. “I was wondering if you’d like to visit Planet Paion again. You know, now that my sister’s NOT being abducted or anything like that? I can help show you around where I used to live and everything. What do you think? You don’t have to bring anyone else, either. It can be just us.”

For a second, the momentary excitement in Amy’s eyes was enough to convince Rigley that he had guessed right. “Aw, man! I wanna go! I really do. But…” Her expression fell again. “There’s just so much work here to do. Besides, I don’t know if Chikorita would really like it if I were to leave her here all alone. Even though Darren is here…hmm…we’ll see.”

Chikorita then waved. “Amy, Amy! Mrs. Venus says that she’ll show us around her tribe! She’s even got a family and everything!”

“Coming, Chikorita!” She then ran off after them, as well as Ralts, leaving Rigley alone to sigh in disappointment. He was so close, too. Even though he had finally pulled himself together to help rally the Rescuers in their time of need, he figured there were still a few things he had trouble dealing with.

Or maybe she really did like Chikorita more than him.

All this time, Bisharp had been trying to just relax and do nothing, but he couldn’t help but watch Rigley talking to Amy the whole time, and from how fast Rigley’s tail was wagging, could tell what he was trying to do. Good grief. He figured the little guy needed some help from a veteran like him.

He pushed himself up, slowly sauntered up to Rigley like a ninja, and said, “Poor, poor Rigley…sad, pitiful Rigley…trusting, naïve Rigley…”

Rigley threw up his arms and shouted, “Okay, I admit it! I have a problem!” He then paused for a second before adding, “Wait…how did you know—?”

“Aah, it was pretty obvious just from watching you. I mean, seriously. Your tail was going like a mile a minute!”

Rigley promptly grabbed his tail to stop it, silently chiding himself for forgetting about how active it became whenever he was nervous. Too bad it wasn’t something he could control very easily. He glared at Bisharp and shot, “Well, ex-CUSE me if—!”

“Don’t worry, lil’ buddy. I’ve been there before, and I’ve got some tips for you.”

Rigley blinked. “Wait…what do you mean you’ve been—?”

“Two words. Elena the Flygon,” he replied dreamily.

Rigley narrowed his eyes at Bisharp, wondering when in the world this guy got so out of it. “…That’s three words—”

“Whatever! The point is, of all the girls you could’ve picked, you just so happen to have chosen the hardest one. I mean, seriously! This isn’t any ordinary Jigglypuff you’re dealing with here! This is Amy the Freaking Flamethrower-Wielding Jigglypuff, who has not just Chikorita, but Darren the Freaking Golurk! As BODYGUARDS, no less! You don’t want to get burned, do you?” Rigley flinched, and tried to get a word in edgewise, but Bisharp continued, “No, I didn’t think so. So I figured that you were going to need a lot of help. I can help you show her how awesome you are. Just trust me. I know what I’m doing.”

Rigley knew that Bisharp had a point, but considering how Bisharp himself had been burned by Amy’s Flamethrower for something stupid he did as a Pawniard the first time they met, Rigley muttered to himself, “…Why do I get a bad feeling about this…?”

Not only that, but considering how Rigley had never even heard of this Elena the Flygon before, he was already starting to have a few doubts about how good Bisharp’s advice would be. But what choice did he have? Bisharp could at least comprehend the challenge that Rigley had apparently brought upon himself for choosing such a famous girl. And if Mike said that having a girlfriend was a good thing, then it certainly wouldn’t hurt to practice, right? Right?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

>>> BEGINNING<<<

I'm participating in #PMD-Explorers ' Event 6: Temporal Terraforming with all three of my teams:

Team Pecha, the Merchants
Team Elgyem, the Lone Rescuer and
Team Nighty Knights, the Rogues

Part 4 of 10. Rigley thinks he has to ask her out, but fails miserably when a certain Meganium suddenly shows up, and Amy's naive nature prevents her from figuring out what Rigley's up to (thankfully for him). However, Bisharp can tell from Rigley's wagging tail what he's trying to do, and offers to help. Uh-oh...

A trait I'd like to mention here is that Rigley's tail wags at an uncontrollable speed whenever he's nervous. He can control it, but it's really, really hard. Amy doesn't see this, as she's in front of him, but Bisharp can clearly see it since he's observing them from behind Rigley.

Oh yeah, and Bisharp's line (and the title for this part) may remind you of a certain Wendy Pleakley from a certain Lilo and Stitch movie.

PK the Kecleon is an NPC belonging to #PMD-Explorers .
Venus the Meganium is a personal NPC belonging to me.

Yeah, his first name, "Wendy", means "brave warrior" on his planet. You can imagine his disappointment when he found out it was considered a girl's name on Earth.

Getting relationship advice from Bisharp is like getting help with game-hunting from Will E. Coyote.

Aaaww, Lipless. Poor thing, you don't know that all of the other Pokemon working on Enigma berries try to hide them.

Great picture of Rigley and Bisharp. Although Rigley should've listened to his gut when he thought Bisharp was full of it.

Yay! You get a cookie for getting the reference!

Pleakley's line was too hilarious to pass up for Bisharp. He's just the kind of guy who'd insist on helping people out, regardless of whether or not they actually want his questionable skills.

Do we have to worry about him doing the flamenco dance later on? x3

Thankfully, no...but what he does end up advising to Rigley might as well make you wish he did the flamenco dance instead. Or something like that.

That said, though, I actually don't see it outside the realm of possibility if he saw Elena again and wanted to try impressing her one more time...
