Part 6: Mad Flinging Skills

Bisharp led Rigley all the way to Venus and George’s house, moving stealthily, like ninjas, as best as they could. They kept hidden mostly among the various trees of Tao Woods, though, so no one could see them. By the time they had arrived, Amy and friends were already busy helping Venus and George fix the treehouse.

“Trust me, when it comes to dealing with older girls, I’m the MASTER.” Bisharp crouched down low amidst the foliage outside the treehouse and whispered, “Okay, so you know how she’s a Jigglypuff?”

Rigley was doing his best to not groan in frustration. “Yeah, I think we all know that by now.”

“And you remember that time when we had to go get those fireworks from Creeping Forest and we ran into those alien friends of yours who could apparently mess with people’s heads?”

“…They were Commanders O-Bem and O-Beema, and they WEREN’T my friends. Get your facts right.”

“Well, during the awesome battle, I had to stop Amy from using Hyper Voice too early, and when I did, there was suddenly this warm, fuzzy feeling that came over my brain for like two seconds. From what I found out, it’s because she has this ability called Cute Charm.” He grinned. “You see what I’m getting at? You’re really lucky she’s a Jigglypuff. All you have to do is hit her, and then she’ll go ANYWHERE with you!”

“…I don’t remember Cute Charm actually working that w—Wait, what? HIT her? Are you insane!?” shouted Rigley. “I—I could never do that! I’d NEVER do that! She always said that hitting your friends is wrong, and all it does it hurt them! She’s my friend, and I really really like her. I could never do that!”

But Bisharp wasn’t deterred in the slightest. “Ah, but because she has this Cute Charm ability, that’s what she WANTS you to think. She doesn’t want you to know that there’s a way to get her to like you so easily! I mean, come on! Battling is awesome! If someone says they don’t like to get hurt, it’s usually for a good reason like that.”

Rigley still felt a bit apprehensive. “…But I don’t really like battling that much either, and I’m pretty sure—”

“Oooh, oooh, I know, I know!” Bisharp jumped up and down; another idea having entered his brain. He pointed up at the treehouse and said, “If you’re too scared to sock her the same way you did with that King X Ditto guy or whatever his name was, then I can help you out! All I have to do is Fling you up there, and you can do the rest! It’ll also be a chance to keep my mad flinging skills sharp, so it’s like killing two birds with one stone! It’s perfect!”

Before Rigley could react, Bisharp grabbed him by the tail, took aim, and threw him like a speedball right at Amy, straight through the hole in the house that had been left by Kale and Chard when they burst in.

“AAAAH LOOK OUT LOOK OUT LOOK OUT LOOK OUT—”

Amy heard Rigley’s desperate shouting, but reacted too slowly.

KA-BONG!

They crashed, sprawling out on the floor, to the surprise of Venus, George, Chikorita, and Ralts. For a split-second, Rigley thought he saw an odd mist of minute pink powder that emanated from Amy’s skin, and the next, that warm fuzzy feeling that Bisharp was talking about took hold of Rigley’s brain. Yup, choosing Amy over Chikorita was the right thing to do. “Aw…hi!” he said. “I mean—Amy, are you okay!? I’m so, so sorry!”

“Ooow…yeah, I think I will be.” She rubbed the spot on her head where they collided. “Jeez, Rigley! Did one of those Rescuers fling you or something? No offense, I swear, they really need to work on their aim…”

“Uh…yeah! I mean, no! I mean…” Rigley figured he’d better do something now while the warm fuzzy feeling still was in his brain. He grabbed her shoulders (that is, if Jigglypuffs even had shoulders…) and teleported them both to the base of the tree. “So what about tonight?”

“Wait—huh?” The momentary change in scenery disoriented her for a bit, until she realized that they actually didn’t travel that far. “Oh right, that whole ‘going to Planet Paion’ thing, right?”

“Yeah! Are you still available?”

“Rigley! I was just about to listen to Mrs. Venus’ story about how she lost her last kid! You should come listen, too.” She wriggled free of his grasp. “Maybe after that, okay?” She then puffed herself up and floated back up to the top of the treehouse.

By that point, the warm, fuzzy feeling had all but worn off. “…Okay…” sighed Rigley in disappointment, silently fuming that Bisharp could completely mess up on such an important fact. That odd pink mist—thing—whatever it was that emitted from Amy’s skin was real, all right, and it did have an effect—but only on him, and not on her. He might as well have not resorted to being flung in the first place for all the good it did him. He then teleported away, back to help his fellow Rescuers do more planting. It wasn’t until a bit later when Bisharp finally found out where he ran off to.

In the meantime, Darren still continued to punch holes for everyone to place saplings in, but Lipless followed behind, throwing in Enigma Berries wherever she could, with PK still chasing her and wondering where she got all those “illegal drugs.”

As soon as Amy climbed back up to the top of the treehouse, Chikorita asked, “Amy? What was that all about?”

“I have no idea…” she answered. “I’ve never seen Rigley act that way before, though. Maybe I should’ve asked him what was bothering him.”

Venus giggled, and Ralts did her best to pretend that she didn’t notice anything.

“Mrs. Venus? What is it?” asked Amy.

“Oh no, it’s nothing…” Venus was quite astute to know exactly what was going on, but to Ralts’ relief, she also believed it wasn’t worth it to break it to them. “Anyway, you said you’d like to hear about how I lost my last child? Well…it all began a long, long time ago, when our tribe decided to stop by Alomomola Beach.”

The three kids gathered around Venus and sat down, eager to hear about it all, while George busied himself with fixing the final parts of the tree house.

“At the time, George and I were thinking of possible names for this child. We already had Kale and Chard, who were named after two types of leafy vegetables, and decided that he would also be named similarly…probably something like Cole. I admit we rarely ever considered girl names, considering how rare those are in our tribe.” She added, “That’s also why our tribe is pretty small to begin with.

“At the time, Kale and Chard wanted us to set our house RIGHT by the ocean. I had doubts, especially considering how dangerous it was, but George assured me that his vines could keep everyone secure. Well, unfortunately, it wasn’t. Maybe Kale or Chard wanted to play some sort of daredevil game with the egg, or maybe the vines weren’t as secure as we thought. All I remember is waking up to feel that a storm had blown in, the egg wasn’t in its secured place, and then, I saw it, being splashed away in the distance by the ocean. We’ve never seen it since.”

She sighed. “I’m sorry if the story doesn’t sound that exciting. But you have to believe me when I say that we were all really, really sad. We all had learned our lesson that day, but ever since then, I never wanted to have any more children, and neither did George. Instead we did our best to take care of Kale and Chard no matter what.”

Chikorita sniffed. “Oh no, Mrs. Venus…that’s so sad, it really is. Hey, maybe I could tell the story of what happened after I hatched.”

Venus blinked. “You said you hatched at a beach, right?”

“Yup! But it’s really not that sad.” Chikorita took a deep breath and started her story. “The beach where I hatched at had the prettiest view you could ever see. Every evening, when the weather’s good, the Krabby come out to blow bubbles, and when the setting sun reflects off of those bubbles…” She sighed. “You’d just have to see it to believe it. Anyway, this beach wasn’t that far away from a place called Treasure Town. I wandered around, got to know everyone, and found a place to call my own. It was a cliff shaped like a Sharpedo, so people called it Sharpedo Bluff.” She smiled. “No one ever thought that it was possible to live inside it, though. It was like my little secret.

“There was a great big guild in the middle of town called the Wigglytuff Guild, and I’d always wanted to join it! Problem was, ever since I ran into some nasty Pokémon, I was too scared to join. I probably would have remained that way forever if I had never met Amy.”

As much as Venus wanted to hear the rest of the story, she had to stop Chikorita for a second. “Chikorita…”

“Yeah, Mrs. Venus?”

“I noticed that your Vine Whip is as good as George’s here—”

“Yeah, I was surprised myself!” George added.

“Aww, thanks!”

Venus then became serious, and her eyes narrowed. “What other moves do you know?”

Chikorita’s eyes widened, as she wasn’t sure why Venus would suddenly ask such an odd question. She offered to tell, anyway. “Grasswhistle, Magical Leaf, and Ancientpower. That last one is something I rarely ever use, though—”

“Vine Whip and Ancientpower are moves that George knows, too,” said Venus. “And you’re about the same age as that child that we lost. It might sound crazy, but did you ever think, that maybe, just maybe…”

It finally clicked in Chikorita’s head, and the realization hit her like a ton of anvils. “Wait…no way! You’re…You’re my MOM!?”

>>> BEGINNING<<<

I'm participating in #PMD-Explorers ' Event 6: Temporal Terraforming with all three of my teams:

Team Pecha, the Merchants
Team Elgyem, the Lone Rescuer and
Team Nighty Knights, the Rogues

Part 6 of 10. Bisharp's advice to Rigley is...apparently to abuse Amy's Cute Charm ability! But considering how Cute Charm affects people EXCEPT Amy, it...doesn't work. Meanwhile, Venus and Chikorita share fascinating stories about their pasts, only to realize that they might actually be...mother and daughter?

I bet you can see what the problem is now, right? There's a romance attempt AND a parental origin revelation in the exact same story. Normally, such a story would be really hard to tell (it was hard to plot out for me, that was for sure), but here, I'm making it work by having the romantic subplot end up affecting the main plot at least to some degree. Sorry, Rigley...but the worst time to ask a girl out is when she's in the middle of an extremely important story!

I'm not completely sure how Cute Charm would work in real life, but the whole "Effect Spore" physics was my best guess.

Venus "Flytrap" the Meganium and George "Tarzan" the Tangrowth are personal NPCs belonging to me.
