No, it's not because it has a bunch of patterns in it, nor is it useful for catching baseballs.
For security of mind, it's surprisingly effective.

Pretty much what I was going for there. Yeah, it might not be *functional*, but it does give you peace of mind, and it just seems kind of wrong to wave away another culture's traditions like they have absolutely no value.
