Day 7: Wedding
I got really caught up in school again but really this one deserved a few extra days anyway ahah
I've wanted to draw a wedding picture for these to for so, sooooo long ;v;

All aboard the HC train, because this one is a doosy! XD
Headcanon:
Gosh, where to start.
So, after a long time- about 7 years, actually- of knowing each other, both Shard and Nicole start getting a little antsy about this whole marriage thing. At first, Shard really didn't see the point in it, but Nicole dropped some 'subtle' hits here and there, which happened more frequently as time went on and more of the Freedom Fighters started families and solid relationships and things. It hit her particularily hard when Bunnie and Antoine married, and later when Sonic and Amy started up a semi-serious relationship. Nicole confides in Sally a lot about this, because even after years and years of learning about herself and her emotions, Nicole still gets confused or overwhelmed very easily at times, especially when it comes to Shard. Sally, being the independent lady that she is, encourages Nicole to not wait for Shard to do something if this is something she wants. Well, that turns into 7 years of the two of them kind of throwing hints at each other now and again. At this point, they're serious but ironically kind of afraid to ask.
So the time comes, Shard finally works up the nerve to propose, plans the day and the time to the exact second that he's going to ask her. He gets her to the spot, a small garden on the outskirts of New Mobotropolis at night with the full moon overhead, and is about to pop the question when Nicole suddenly and completely unexpectedly blurts out a proposal of her own. Shard is completely blindsided, and his pride is a bit wounded that she beat him to it, but quickly realizes that honestly, he shouldn't be surprised. He pops out the ring he got/made for her and asks if that answers her question. Obviously, the answer is yes.
One of my favorite parts about this HC is honestly their 'dress code'. Nicole, being the simple and modest little thing that she is, absolutely refuses to wear anything too flashy or too extravagant. She wants a simple dress because she knows that no matter what she wears, Shard will think she's beautiful as is, so the most Sally and Bunnie can coax her into is the sparkles. Bunnie does her hair and some slight makeup, insisting it's only right that she gets the full wedding prep experience, and Sally helps where she can. She's a queen by this point, but not an expert in not looking like a rogue princess by any means. Shard, by contrast, goes all out in terms of 'attire'. Full body paintjob, since he can't exactly wear a tux. Nicole asks him about this before the ceremony, a little bit stunned that he'd go to such an extent to change how he looksl. Shard counters with a cheeky response of "There isn't much I wouldn't do for you, y'know." Nicole kind of melts because time and time again he's proven that this is true. Still, she didn't want him to change or feel that he had to change. Shard insists that he wanted to do it for her, given that he 'always looks the same'.
Nicole later pokes fun at him by saying the black made him look sleeker. Shard's completely used to her teasing him about his roundness, so it doesn't phase him at all xD
Obviously, the two are a very special case with this kind of thing. Nothing about their marriage is even remotely 'normal', so of course, they make the best of it. Only their closest friends are there because they're still fairly reserved- like 10-15 people at the most- and it's basically just them walking down the aisle together, saying their vows(which of course they memorized lol), and then kissing. While they'd always been fairly expressive about their relationship once Shard comes out of hiding, for most of the people at their wedding, that was the very first time they'd ever actually seen them kiss. Which speaks to their very impressive level of secret keeping, because Shard loves kisses LOL After that, not much really changes between them. They've been so close for so long, actually being married made no difference in their relationship- almost like they'd been unofficially married the whole time. The whole ceremony more just affirmed it.
They both wear their rings(that they hand made for each other, btw), which are just simple, tinted metal bands, on their right hands instead of their left. Again, nothing fancy for them. Given that Shard's left is the one he most commonly deconstructs into other weapons (though he can turn both hands into cannons), they decided to just wear them on their right instead.
By this time they also have a small cottage of their own instead of sharing a fancy garage slab like they did for the first 3 years of their relationship. And they lived happily ever after, the end LOL
