Description
Eldest of three girls born into a noble family. Early on, she became annoyed by the “rules of society” that prevented her from doing what she wanted to do. Her solution was to run away from home and hang out with kids of the so-called common class/street gangs. Her family would always come and reclaim her from these sojourns and re-imposed their strict societal rules. As time passed, her need to escape the life of a noble became a steadily increasing pressure. When she was successful in getting away, her goal had changed from having fun, to not getting caught and be returned to that stifling environment.
Life running from her family was not always fun and games. From the street gangs, she developed the skill of a thief, hiding, sneaking, and generally not being seen. When avoidance was not possible, she usually stood her ground with blades ready to ensure that not only she got to see the next day, but her friends too. Other times, through her influence/perceived connection to the upper classes, she was able to talk her way out of situations, usually with the city guard.
When people would describe Jiryln, they would say that she always remained dignified, even in the direst of situations. She maintained a cool, collected composure, and had a plan for most situations. She only seemed annoyed when things got out of control and she had to quickly adapt her plans. No matter what situation she found herself in, Jiryln always seemed to be the right person, in the right place, at the right time. She strived to change the outcome of encounters that would have easily degenerated into bloodshed or worse. Wherever she went, her influence brought changes that many would say was for the good, though those who brought harm to her or her friends had something much different to say. It was the common consensus that Jiryln was destined for something better than the life of a common street rat.
After coming of age, she decided to leave her family and status to make her own way into the world. With the education she had growing up, she found herself working to solve many of the problems she encountered during her wanderings. Surprisingly, her focus was not to enrich herself, but to encourage change that lead to a solution and benefit all involved, or at least the mutual good. Through these actions, she caught the eye of the Captain of the city guard. Taking her under his wing, he unknowingly set her on the path of destiny as an agent of change.
I have worked on Jiryln for Theagar , the winner of the 10k Game. It was an exciting project, as I got to work on something from a completely different universe - one I've visited in the past but never had the chance to depict in an artwork before. I've experimented with a Guild Wars stylized tarot style and would like to try this particular setup of a stylized character and painted background behind a 'wheel' frame of sorts again in near future. I hope you like the final result!
