Tynar stood away from the others, leaving Krasu to huddle amongst the cluster of adults. Holding the bouquet in his hands, he waited patiently for the service to begin.

The weather was unexceptional, but to him, the breeze was cold. To an extent, everything seemed to possess a chill; even the voices of those around him carried a frigid sting.

He hated the shoes. They were too stiff and tight for his feet, but then again, they were borrowed. All he wanted was to go home. Not the place he'd been made to stay for the past couple of weeks, but his real home.

Surprisingly, even some of his extended family had attended. As estranged as they had been from his parents, it was clear that they still possessed a small amount of care for them. The same courtesy hadn't been extended to either Tynar or his brother, but that wasn't something that really bothered him. If anything, he felt it was better that way. Better to be a burden to strangers rather than a "family" who are already predisposed to dislike you.

Looking away, he watched the trees dance gently in the wind.

So, I'd been thinking about Tynar's story and I had the thought of: what would Tynar look like in funeral attire? The answer is that he's kind of adorable, but pretty dang sad. :'c It's the sort of thing he tries to keep to himself. Lock away those feelings, you don't need them. This scene takes place during Tynar's childhood, after his parents died and he and his younger brother Krasu had been moved to an orphanage.

It was a challenge to sketch those flowers. >.< I used reference for both them (they're lilies and carnations) and the shoes, as my first attempt at formal shoes ended up looking very weirdly like trainers, which obviously is not ideal. I like how they both came out, though. ^_^ The arm and hand positioning was a bit of a pig to do too, so I hope it looks good.

I tried something different with the background. I hope it gets across the kind of sombre and empty feeling I was going for.
