Description

A Work In Progress for the next addition to the Historically Wrong Sketch - Medieval Series , the medieval kingdom of Denmark after the Viking age and its conversion to Christianity

A Re-drawing for the original Danish Woman Warrior from the series, as outlined in the plan HWS Artbook March Update: Redrawing Western Europe for the upcoming HWS: Medieval Women Warriors Artbook

In the context of history, the Danes were one of the most ambitious "vikings" that not only tried to control England during the Viking Age, but also after its conversion to christianity. However, succession crisis led to several rule by incompetent king, before regaining its status power in late 14th century under King Valdemar IV "Attertag",whose daughter, Margaret I of Denmark, later founded the Kalmar Union in 1397 that borught together Kingdom of Norway, Denmark and Sweden under personal union.

Consequently, the historical background became the basis for the inspiration for this sketch, which uses the drawing of King Valdemart IV, shown on 14th century fresco in Næstved's Saint Peter's Church (Sankt Peders Kirke) as references

As always your "sketches" are true masterpieces! I love how faithful this is to the original painting!
I have to say your drawings are some of the best references I've ever seen for anyone who loves historical weaponry and clothing. Much better than many illustrated books on the matter!

You are always kind with compliment Olaff, I'm merely an amateur artist trying to follow the footsteps of Angus Mcbride

I don't think the term "amateur" applies to you, honestly! XDΒ  Oh, Angus' works are outstanding, I'd say you're following his footsteps in the best way possible.
