Description

Many people take walking for granted.

If you don't believe it, try to recall how many steps you have gone up or down today, and you may realise what I mean.

It is fine if you can't recall it correctly, I only means that you have a healthy functioning body.

She could count the number of steps that she tried to get on everyday even since she was released from the hospital.

She had a promising future.

She was the fastest girl in her town and she was going to get a scholarship after she finished high school.

She should have been on the olympic team.

She should have been running on the track.

She could still remember the wind brushing across her cheeks and sweat dripping down her forehead.

But it all ended because of a stupid party she went to.

It was her junior year.  She just handed in her final paper on her investigation of how the city is ignoring the handicap.

She thought her essay was brilliant.  Her teachers agreed.

She knows that she should not be drinking and she did not drink.

She went to that stupid party only because everyone what is anyone in her school went.

She didn't do anything stupid.

She didn't drink.

She didn't do weed.

Not like the other kids.

She was proper.

She didn't count on this to happen.

She was about to go out in to the backyard for some fresh air when someone shouted,

"Parent alert! They are coming back!"

The other kids rushed out the backyard hoping to get to the rear exit before getting caught.

She was in the way.  She lost her footing and fell.

After that a stampede of other high schoolers stepped on her one after another.

Some say that she was lucky to be alive.  But she doesn't seem to find her luck so great.

Her back was broken and she became partially paralyzed from her chest down.

Her doctor say that she is lucky to have partial feeling in her legs.  But she don't seem to find her luck so great.

She still have incontinence causing her to still have to wear a diaper.

Her friends say that she is lucky to have such rich parents so that she can still go to college with out her scholarship.

She still thinks that she is burden to her family.

The doctor has confidence that she will walk with support.  This is much better than what any other people with spinal injury has.

She knows she will never feel that wind across her face again.  She will never be that fast on the tracks.

All she wish for now is be able to just go up a few steps, so that she could go to places where normal people can go.
