It looks a little like a canyon wren to me. It's hard to tell without any markings.

True...
The first thing that came to mind was "I'iwi," but, that can't be right, can it?

I don't know the I'iwi. You could try a Google search on it. I saw the other comments. I think it resembles a hummingbird, but not quite. All the hummingbirds I know have straight beaks. But I have heard of sunbirds, and that's a good thing to Google, too. You can Google pictures, and maybe find it that way. This bird looks a little larger than a hummingbird to me, but I'll bet it has many of the same characteristics. We have some like that around here, too.

Well, we can eliminate "hummingbird," as the picture was taken in Israel, and hummingbirds aren't found outside of the New World...

It's a shame you don't have hummingbirds. But you may be able to find the bird online and learn what it is.

I *have* hummingbirds, as I live in California: I think a female Anna's hummingbird has claimed my backyard as a portion of her territory. Last week, I saw her pull out fibers from a cotton boll in my cotton tree, for her nest, I think.

Ah! We have Anna's here, too. I have photographed them. I should put some of my hummingbird photos in my gallery. I think it is a little early to be making a nest, even in California.

She's a female: It's a law of nature that females engage in holiday shopping this time of year.

Well, where was the picture taken?
If it was in North America, east of the Rocky Mountains, then it's a ruby-throated hummingbird.
