Description I happened to mention to another deviant that I lived near mountains, and he pointed out that I do not have any photos of mountains in my gallery. So I set out to capture Mount Washington (the highest peak in the northeast US) on a cloudless day.

so, thank you for that shot this mountain is not so high as I expected. And picture is not quite large, and I couldnt see for details...is that orig.sized picture? Is the vertex under snow hat at summertime ?

Although Mt Washington is the highest mountain the the northeast US, it's true that it's not a very high mountain (compared, for instance, with the Rocky Mountains). The snow does not last through the summer. I could have made the picture bigger, but I always post shots of that size, out of habit, I guess.

Thanks for taking a look at my gallery again!

Pretty. QUite simialr to our area. If I travel most directions, I soon get to a mountin. last year at Mt Baker I walked the snowline in December, had a picnic, and a run-in with the sheriff, because I was parked off-road

Thanks! I like to hike, but not up mountains. That's too much work. I like a kinder, gentler trail. However, since my husband likes to hike steep trails, I've conceded on many occasions to scrambling up and down rocky slopes. Down is worse than up. Aggravates the arthritis.

Parking is tricky in the White Mountain National Forest, too. One has to buy a 'parking pass' in order to park at any of the trail heads. We buy a sticker for our cars once a year, but sometimes forget that it needs to be renewed...

No mountains in Wisconsin? *Garnet looks at Wisconsin Tourism web page. See no magnificent vistas. Just a cute squirrel sitting in a snow-covered log* Oh, well, at least you've got cute squirrels!

Thanks for the !

We do have cute squirrels. I actually have one in the backyard tree. We have this little wheel and put corn on it and he eats from it. I haven't given him a name yet. I can tell its the same one because the poor guys tail is split in two a little. Little brown guy, cute face. But yeah, no real mountains, lost of logs and trees.

That reminds me of my husband, who has a 'pet' chipmunk (during the summer, anyway- hibernation in winter). He named the little critter 'stubby' because it has an unnaturally short tail.

The blob at the peak are broadcasting antennas and weather observation equipment. There's a crew of year-round weather observatory folk who man the station. I would have mentioned it in my 'comments,' but I didn't think anyone would notice it! Sharp eyes!

There's a strange grey blob right at the peak there. Mysterious.
But I do like these shots of such dramatic landscape. So I do. :~)

It's funny. Whenever you watch those programmes on tv about global warming and raising sea levels and stuff and they do the projections the county where I live dissapears into the sea. Most of it round here is Fenlands and Mudflats and land that has been reclaimed from the sea. I'm sure she'll want it back one day.

Garnet-43 In reply to Spiralshaman [2007-01-07 13:10:10 +0000 UTC]

Lots of cities are built on land that has been reclaimed from the sea. Boston, for instance, and New Orleans. I imagine the projections have them disappearing, too...
