More like a tree that tried to take on a human form but wasn't very good at it. If a single piece were to survive, it could regrow by absorbing other plants.

Lol. When I saw this the first thing that went through my mind was, "It's Harold." Yes, the tree's name is Bob, but Harold calls him Herbert to mess with him. I loved Fallout 3.
