Actually, the more I look at this picture, the more bizarre it seems. A hardened warrior and a kitten making puppy eyes at the viewer...what was I thinking!

Edit: Apologies but I had to do this. I looked at the background again and DAMN! So this is Duncan with minor tweaks and a brand new background. If you preferred the old version let me know, I do still have it. Just for the fun of it I've also put up a detail of Duncan's face without the beard. I just couldn't resist. The difference!

This image is from chapter 49 of 'The Narrow Path'. [link] In fact, it's a scene near the end that was changed but by then the image had stuck in my mind and would not budge. This is the scene:

"Duncan felt foolish and reluctant, standing there with the kitten in his arms as he let Riordan do the talking. It was not without regret he watched as his friend squatted down to hand over Mouser to a young girl with dark braids before clasping wrists with her father. Mouser fixed Duncan with his yellow gaze as the girl carried him off."

The picture is yet another experiment. ~olivegbg has been chastising me and telling me I need to be more brave and use bolder strokes. I tried, I really did. Every so often I would catch myself doing fiddly little things and tweaking, resulting in much hair tearing and bad language. I also thought that the lighter subject warranted more colours. Anybody who's seen my more recent images knows the limited range I usually play with. So I deliberately went with something more 'sunny' than my Grey Wardens usually get. Whilst I, again on Olive's prompting, used only one brush for Duncan and Mouser I allowed myself to play a little with the background. I think I might have gone a bit mad...

I did a final bit of tweaking on my not at all calibrated work monitor (don't tell anybody) so I'm unsure about the colours and contrast. Time will tell. Edit: Ack! Seeing the colours on my own monitor makes my eyes bleed!
