Description
This is the first piece from my MONSTER series.
The object of this project was to re-imagine classical monsters from pop culture and mythology. I did it through my own aesthetical taste and references from previous incarnations of these creatures in other visual media. I have a lot of love for this monsters, each has a certain relevance in present and previous cultures, they are timeless. These monsters will always remain in movies, books, comics as the ultimate incarnation of our fears. They all were done with stylograph and later colored in photoshop.
The Alien obviously represents fear of the unknown and the infinity of our universe, if there's something out there we are surely terrified of it. My visual inspiration for this creature was a Praying Mantis, I wanted to make a creature that was completely out of this world but somehow resembled it. H.P. Lovecraft and H.G. Welles came as an inspiration for this, its tentacles are obviously something the Great Cthulhu would quite respect. The planet where it come froms is pretty similar to ours since it has huge seas in which these creatures were born, they are the last stage of evolution of that world. They have those huge flippers to swim and frog-like legs to jump from sea to land, their full hybrid condition allows them to live inside the water (That's pretty similar to this planet's water) and in land, in which they have enormous colonies of their own species.
