I love flowers, and more, of yellow that I put on the grave of my grandfather.I have even three superb books of flowers, 1 for annual and biennial, 1 for perennial flowers and 1 for the flower bulbs. These books came from a school of horticulture where I made only 1 year.

Nice picture, friend
I especially like the way Ernest looks like, he seems so serious and his face looks kinda grave. I think it'd be interesting to write a fic about him and his relationship towards John. You said John was the only one to know about Ernest's secret kindness, i imagine they must had a very special relationship. I trust Ernest was a great father, but told John how difficult and demanding his job as Colonel Burns was, insisting on the fact he would have himself to be and impeccable when he'd become Clifford's servant.

Well, i'll think about it.

Yep, it's a interesting relationship. I mean, Ernest is the typical severe father who seems that don't care about anything (specially in the feelings) as well his son is doing the things right. But deep inside, Ernest cares so much about John, even protecting him when John go to see his friend Clifford despite the prohibition that the Coronel said to them (after Clifford leaved the manor). Secretly he prayed that his son becomes an excellent servant (even if he know that John dislikes the Coronel very much)... and mostly, to be happy with Clifford one way or other. For it, Ernest is also a very kind and warm father... just he's ashamed to showing affections in public.

I agree
Jeez, i just had an idea, and i need your opinion...i imagined that one day, Colonel Burns discovers John sees Clifford secretly and helps him since he was forced to leave the manor. And one night, as Ernest is working at the manor as usual, John is present, and the Colonel starts asking him if he had any news from Clifford. John denies to protect his friend and his father who could have troubles because of that. And the Colonel slaps him roughly, treating him a "bloody liar who's not even worthy of working for the Burns family". I wondered how Ernest would react...

Oh my, I can imagine that scene. I imagine that after that slap, Ernest stands between John and his master, protecting his son. Saying quietly yet coldly to the Coronel that if he touch and treats his son again, he'll leave the manor. That scares the Coronel, he simply can't imagine himself totally alone... specially when he's getting older everyday. After it, Coronel Burns allow John to continue visit Clifford, as he report about if he already have a son (I imagine the Coronel planning to adopting one of Clifford's sons).

I think i simply HAVE to write this sequence. I even may write it by now, since i want to practice a bit on Ernest and the colonel.

^^
Just so we're okay about the dates, it occurs about a year after the Colonel rejected Clifford as his heir, so towards 1877 is alright? It makes Clifford being 18 and John 12.
