Description 蛇

I made this a while back originally for a proposed viral marketing campaign. Unfortunately this design did not make the final cut.

The leftmost space was reserved for further graphics and text placement...

I believe the project is still in development so I cannot disclose any further information...

Gav, you just put white symbols and light green+red strip over original... and it really made it worse. Thats not the expected edit.

GAVade In reply to v00d00m4n [2010-08-27 11:00:50 +0000 UTC]

I disagree, I think it looks better....

The white strips is Snake in Kanji, the green/red strip is also a snake...

My art, my rules

Snake in Kanji? ))) Orly?)) Lol yeah i could not guess this for sure ))

I dont think authors of viral marketing who directed you to draw this art would agree with "My art, my rules", lol because it wasnt originally your idea, and since you drew it under someone's orders and ideas, its kinda legally considered as Collaborating.

Share and Share Alike:
Unlike works with a single author, in a joint work, the co-authors have equal, individual rights to control and exploit the work, particularly in four areas: Ownership, Control, Accounting and Transfers.

Ownership:
No matter the size of the contribution, the joint work’s author owns an undivided interest in the entire work and all its elements. Similar to a joint bank account, each party to the account can withdraw funds, even beyond amounts he or she deposited; likewise no single author owns any more or less than the other.

Control:
Traditionally, an author has the exclusive right to use, reproduce or make new works inspired by the original work. An author of a joint work shares that control with other joint authors.

So its not only yours, as well as rules
----
Since i know co-authors, and some history behind this art i really think they would not like this edit too, because this edit was quick and dirty, you can do better than just draw 1 random line and 2 totaly out of place kanji symbols over old art you drew a while back Old is brilliant, but this new edit is real sux )

Hehe yes I know you can read Kanji...

The 'my rules' comment is justified, the art was a sample, I done it on my own accord to serve as an example, a test piece. I did not get paid for this illustration, it is mine to do what I wish with.

I understand you know of the project, do you have access to the contract?

i only have access to mine contract, not your one ^_^ ))) But i suppose our contracts share similar restrictions and rules)

Only if this absolutely necessary for you, but realy law have different opinion about this, justice too)) just saying)))

For example your art of Portal and TF2 - you think you own exclusive rights to these arts?
Think again!
Because you are in co-authorship with valve since you make art based on their ideas, concept and characters, and it doesnt matter that they aint requested them or didnt pay you, the are considered as co-authors by default, and since they own trademark they have priority in co-authorship and you cant sell, and do anything without their permision and they can even forbrid public demonstration of art you drew... if they want, but since they are good guys they will not restrict anything, so you can relax))
But you better should learn these laws before stating that you own exclusive rights to arts which arent based on your own ideas, you just think wrong about this))

Nice little rant you have going on there....

I ALWAYS place Β© information on EVERY fan art I do.... of course I do not own any intellectual rights to the designs of the characters I illustrate, BUT the artwork is still mine......

Now as for this particular illustration, there was no exact specifics on what to illustrate, I come up with this idea on my own. I did not get paid anything for this, this image is NOT in use anywhere in the commercial world... NOBODY except ME owns exclusive rights to this artwork, it was my conception, it's not in use and is ultimately mine. The rest of the contractual work is not 100% mine....

Elsewhere in the brief there is more refined instructions on what to illustrate and this is ongoing....

I see you have a MG portal, do you really want me to anomalously blow the whistle on the projects you are working on?

Hmm, not to sound like I'm dropping terms here, but theres a lot of highly detailed 'visual noise' in this for a viral project. Without revealing what you obviously can't, did the final cuts tend towards more streamlined and less 'loaded' images? I'm just curious in the design motives.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GAVade In reply to KoshDrawfag [2010-08-24 19:37:57 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the comment, to my knowledge the illustration was not rejected due to my style or technique, I submitted various designs which have not come back to me yet..

I suppose this small sample does look a little grainy at this size, the full resolution is much more clear, the grain effect is just my paper texture showing through.

KoshDrawfag In reply to GAVade [2010-08-25 03:10:26 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I was refering more to the many various elements that make up your composition. I've noticed that a lot of times when groups are asking for 'viral' symbols for their ad campaigns, they're really looking for something streamlined, simplified, and symbolic.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GAVade In reply to KoshDrawfag [2010-08-25 10:23:31 +0000 UTC]

It depends on the brief and outcome desired. This was slated for a double page magazine spread or spot illustration for half a single page.

The idea behind this was to get fans of the project interested by seeing the imagery... More of an illustration than vector graphics or icons...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KoshDrawfag In reply to GAVade [2010-08-25 18:37:27 +0000 UTC]

Ah, okay. Something that large and done in a bigger print media format makes a bit more sense in terms of the volume of noise going on. Good to know that rules are being broken when it comes to the term 'viral'.

By embracing the G.R.I.T we learn to appreciate the grunge for what it really is, a messy interpretation of the very fibres of our inner soul, a manifestation of ones feelings and desires.....
