Jennika
Shinigami
Chris Bradford
Takeshi
Tiger Claw
These four are examples of the Foot Elite along with Karai . The Foot Elite are ranked just below Foot Ninja Masters. In terms of skill, each one is equal to any of the Turtles. But the ones shown here are wearing their own unique uniforms. To see what the standard Foot Elite garb looks like, check out Oroku Nagi .
JENNIKA
Name: Jennika
Age: 17-20
Appearances: Arcs 2-3, 5-7
Height: 5'3”
Species: Human
Favored Weapon: Tekko-kagi
Jennika ran away from home at a young age to escape from her abusive father. As a street urchin, she learned to be a thief in order to survive. She was found by Tatsu, who was impressed by her skills as a thief at such a young age. He brought her to Japan to be trained as a Foot Ninja alongside Karai, the daughter of the Grand Master. Growing up and being trained together, she, Karai, and a third kunoichi named Shinigami became like sisters. During Arc 2, she and Shinigami accompany Karai to New York under the Shredder’s orders to investigate these so-called “Turtles.” Karai goes undercover during the day at Lairdman High as Hana Ren, but hunts the Turtles at night with her kunoichi team. If Leonardo is Karai’s rival, then Jennika is Raphael’s, both of them being the most aggressive fighters of their team.
When she meets Casey Jones, she develops something of a crush on him. Like Raphael, Casey also has a temper like she does, but at least he’s the same species as her. Plus, he’s not bad looking. Like Karai, she has conflicting feelings when the Foot attacks the O’Neil home at the beginning of Arc 3. Her crush continues on even after the kunoichi team becomes allies with the Turtles. Because of this, she also has a one-sided rivalry with April O’Neil. However, this crush doesn’t go anywhere as Casey and April don’t have eyes for anyone else, and Jennika keeps it a secret.
Jennika is from the IDW comics. She’s trained with the sword and bow, but her weapon of choice is the tekko-kagi. Being raised alongside Karai, she came to idolize the Shredder and sought to emulate him by training to use the same weapon. In my series, Jennika never becomes a mutant nor does he she join the Hamato clan. Instead, Jennika and Shinigami remain at Karai’s side when she becomes the new leader of the New York Foot. Her crush on Casey is a reference to the IDW comics. I’ve compared my Karai to Azula from Avatar: the Last Airbender. Following along with this, Jennika and Shinigami are Karai’s Mai and Ty Lee. If I had to compare her to those characters, she’s like a combination of Mai and Azula: moody and aggressive. Karai is more like a mix of Azula and Ty Lee: dangerous, haughty, and in charge, but playfully teases Leonardo.
SHINIGAMI
Name: Unknown
Age: 18-21
Appearances: Arcs 2-3, 5-7
Height: 5'7”
Species: Human
Favored Weapon: Kusarigama
Like Jennika, the kunoichi known as Shinigami was raised alongside Karai and trained from a young age in the Foot Clan. Being slightly older than the older two, she’s the “big sister” of the trio. Unlike her sisters, she pursues the path of a Foot Mystic. Her sensei is Mistress Kitsune herself, Oroku Amaya. Her weapon of choice is the kusarigama, but she uses her magic alongside her ninjutsu. With her magic, she can cast illusions, shapeshift into animals, and place people in trances with hypnosis.
When the Shredder assigned Karai to go to New York, she and Jennika faithfully accompanied her. Whenever they face off against the Turtles and their allies, she’s often parried off against Michelangelo. They both use similar weapons and both are witty, though Shinigami’s sense of humor is definitely more subdued than his. Michelangelo even tries to flirt with her, which she thinks is adorable. When the Foot attack the O'Neils apartment, Karai confides in Shinigami about her conflicted feelings.
Shinigami is from the 2012 series. I have her be a Foot Mystic as an explanation of her witch powers. Going with the Avatar comparison, Shinigami is a mix of Ty Lee and Mai; she’s dark and subdued, but has a coy sense of humor. If you look closely, you can see her beauty mark by her lips.
BRADFORD
Name: Christopher Bradford
Age: 33-37
Appearances: Arcs 1-3, 5-6
Height: 6’1”
Species: Human
Favored Weapon: Katana
Like the Hun, Chris Bradford is secretly a Foot lieutenant that runs a recruiting front for the Foot Clan. Both are successful but their methods are opposites. Hun runs the Purple Dragon gang, pulling off robberies and racketeering schemes. Bradford has a more legitimate approach. Chris Bradford is a successful action movie star and owns multiple martial art studios. As a Foot Elite, he is trained in multiple weapons, including the katana and the nunchaku.
After Hun is arrested and dies in jail in Arc 1, Tatsu has Bradford take over the Foot recruitment entirely while the Purple Dragons go to work with Baxter Stockman and Krang at Technodrome. When Karai deposes Tatsu in Arc 5, he reluctantly goes along with her for the time being. By the Arc 6, he tries to undermine her authority by having training his students in order to organize a coup against her. He's found out and a brawl breaks out between his dojo and the growing Hamato Clan. Eventually, Karai and her Foot Clan step in to intervene. Bradford challenges her just she had challenged Tatsu. He believes because his older and more experienced that he should lead the New York Foot. But she beats him and then has to answer to Oroku Sakki for his attempted coup. The rest of his dojo is forgiven but is dissolved, some returning to their normal lives, some joining Karai, and some joining the Hamato Clan.
Chris Bradford is from the 2012 series but also appears in ROTTMNT. But he never mutates in my series. He serves as the replacement of Hun and as another human antagonist for Arc 1, which won’t feature any non-human villains. If the 2012 Bradford is based on Chuck Norris, my Bradford is based on the character John Kreese from the Karate Kid and Cobra Kai series. I even modeled his gi off of Kreese’s.
TIGER CLAW
Name: Takeshi
Age: 38-40
Appearances: Arcs 3-7
Height: 6’3”(human), 6’6”(mutant)
Species: Human x Tiger
Favored Weapon: Various
Takeshi is the leader of the Shredder’s Foot Elite. He’s a deadly assassin and excellent tracker. In Arc 3, Karai as Hana Ren is able to earn April's and Turtles’ trust and learns the location of their lair. When Splinter and the Turtles return home one day to find the lair trashed and a message left pinned to the wall, they go to stay with the O’Neils at their apartment. While on an exercise run, Leonardo is ambushed by the Foot and brutalized by the Shredder. When their fight takes them back to the apartment, Splinter faces off against the Shredder. After Splinter is defeated and taken prisoner, the Turtles and the O’Neils are forced to flee when the building is set on fire.
Though his nemesis has been captured, Krang had hired him to eliminate the interloping Turtles. Though he wants to finish his rival once and for all, he needs him alive to lure out his targets. When Krang's bounty hunters fail to find the Turtles, the Shredder sends for his best agent: Takeshi. The Foot Elite tracks them to the Jones farm in Massachusetts. Believing they’re safe, they are caught by surprise when they’re ambushed by Takeshi. They manage to escape, but more importantly, they learned from Takeshi that Splinter is still alive.
The Turtles and their allies return to New York to save Splinter and stop Baxter and Krang. But Takeshi is still on their tail. As they infiltrate Krang’s New York headquarters, they have to battle Takeshi once again in order to save their sensei. Takeshi is defeated when he is knocked into Dr. Feral's mutagen experiments, turning him into a tiger mutant. Because of this, Michelangelo calls him “Tiger Claw.”
Even after the Shredder is defeated and calls off the mission, Tiger Claw retains his hatred of the Turtles. Not because of his mutation, for he is now an even deadlier warrior, but because of the Turtles cutting off his tail when he attacks them one more time after being mutated. Tiger Claw appears again in Arc 5 when the Turtles come to Oroku Sakki for additional training in preparation for the Battle Nexus Tournament. The Shredder, Kitsune, and Tiger Claw all take part in the training; Takeshi especially enjoys putting the Turtles through the wringer.
He has a daughter, Umeko, with whom he has a very strained relationship. He is controlling and overly hard on her, putting pressure on her to be just like him. He sees it as "tough love," but it's just emotional abuse. She wants to be her own person and fears she'll end up just like him one day, a cold and remorseless killer. Umeko is among the Foot Ninja that accompany the Shredder to New York in Arc 3. She's an Elite like Karai, Shinigami, and Jennika but isn't a part of their group. In Arc 5, Umeko is one of those caught up in the Mutagen Bomb, turning into Alopex the Arctic Fox. Since she became a mutant like he did, it only reinforces her fears that she's becoming like him. In Arc 6, Tiger Claw returns to New York to report to Oroku Sakki on how Karai is handling the New York branch of the Foot. While there, he also runs into his daughter. He tries to convince her to return to Japan with him in order to finish her training, but she rejects him and the Foot Clan. She earns her freedom from her father by beating him in a fight and joins the Hamato Clan.
Tiger Claw is from the 2012 series. As in that series, he’s the Shredder’s top assassin, but we’ll get to see him as Takeshi before being mutated. Like in the 2012 series, he lost his tail, but this time to the Turtles, earning them his hatred. As before, he’s a master of multiple weapons and firearms. In terms of power scaling, he’s above all other Foot Elites like Bradford, Hun, and Karai, but below masters like Tatsu, Kitsune, and the Shredder. Where all other members of the Foot Elite wear red cloaks or scarfs, Takeshi uniquely wears blue. Like in the 2012 series, he's related to Alopex, this time being her father.
