many years ago now I was lucky enough to get a 'press pass' for the 'Fighter meet' at North Weald airfield,part of the 'press day' on the Friday was a flight in the locally based PBY-5A Catalina...this was exciting enough but then we where told that they'd be 'putting something up' for us to look at!! a bumpy take off later I was standing in the observation blister of the 'Cat' when...P-51D serial no. 44-74008,owned by Intrepid Aviation, also at North Weald, slid into view....
brilliant.

The one aircraft by which ALL other fighters are measured. I saw one several years ago at an airshow. My mother in law was with me. She commented"You really like that plane huh?" I told her if God flew an airplane---he flew a P-51. She smacked me and said "Don't be Sacrilegious!" Irubbed my arm (she has a mean swing!) and said, "I wasn't being sacrilegious, I was being reverent!"

Lucky man !! I would have been more than happy with the ride in the Catalina, let alone the chance to see a Mustang in it's natural enviroment
