Ah, the feeling that comes over our bodies and minds when we gaze upon the beach. The azure waves washing gently over smooth sand or crashing against rugged rock-faces. The beach can represent many things in our lives. It could be a place to remember times of one's childhood where many summers were spent frolicking within the warm light of the sun as you feel the warm sand at the bottoms of your feet. It could be a place of love, where you met your lover for the first time deep in one an others embrace; the only sounds are the waves crashing against the shore symbolizing the powerful passion the two feel for one another. Gazing upon the seamless horizon at the exact point where the sky and the sun meet as the cascading light envelops and engulfs the nearby clouds; they silently float above like powdery light-bulbs. Lizard Point II, photo taken by the photographically experienced `geckokid, shows us such a classic beach scene completely dripping with serenity and a tranquil silence. A great shot of still life while at the same time carrying an all familiar feeling that many of us would be more than happy to experience once more.
As I lay my eyes upon the gorgeous scenery, more and more detail comes into play. The contrasting and lighting captured in the piece just resonates off the picture, as you can see the sun slowly sinking below the horizon and lighting the ocean before you. Everything just seems to call out to the viewer of the picture; from the natural transitions from the land to the sea, to the aging dock area sitting out on the edge of the ocean as if it too is enjoying the peaceful sight before it.
The clouds above the whole scene do an excellent job of molding the shot and bringing all of the elements together to truly help create a scene that does not fail to impress any onlookers. Like with many pictures of this quality, you soon feel as if you're being transported out of this place and into this location. The cool, salty breeze of the ocean wafting over you as the mist of the crashing waves rises around you. You feel as if you are almost one with the ocean before you. The fading lights of the sun enveloping you and granting you a farewell embrace of its warmth before it descends past the water's horizon. The dock at your side, with an almost haunting appearance in the area while at the same time carrying a strange inviting feeling that just melds seamlessly with the landscape around it.
One thing that I could suggest for the piece is perhaps a bit of minor tweaking with the brightness and contrast levels of the piece a bit more. A little more contrast could really bring out a more dramatic feeling to the piece and the bring the setting sun's light forward as well as bringing out more of the shadow strength in the rest of the piece.
With such a gorgeous image set before us, its hard to imagine why this piece wouldn't work. All the parts blend together and give us a something that even though we've seen it before, it still feels just as impressive as the first time.
