Kit: Lived with housefolk since he was a kit. Named Crumb. Adopted into a new twoleg nest at 2 moons old, by two adult twolegs with one twoleg kit and a dog. They nicknamed him Big-boy. They never checked his sex and assumed he was male, so he went with it. He wasn't groomed properly, and was fed cheap pellets. When they neglected to feed him, he'd eat from the dog's food bowl. Ran away at 8 moons old.

Apprentice: He'd hang around the edge of Twolegplace, often staring into the wilderness. When he first learned of wild cats living out there, he asked around for more information. Kittypets told him of the Clan cats. After learning some basic things about them, he set off into the forest. It had just rained the night before, so he got mud all over his fur on the treck through DuskClan's territory. It was a matter of time before he was approached by a patrol of cats. When asked what he was doing on their territory, he responded:

"I'd like to join your... Clan? Uh. Yes. I will hunt for you and provide for your kits. My name is uh..." He looked down at his paws. "Muddy... paw. Yes. Muddypaw. Please let me join." He'd never admit he was previously a kittypet.

Crumb's paws sank through the dank earth as he slogged through marshy territory. "What cat in their right mind would choose to live here," he mumbled to himself. He tasted the air: nothing but the scent of pine sap and rain. And mud. No sign of any cats yet. Don't they have a scent-marked border? He could've sworn he'd heard that from some twolegplace rogues...

After slipping on the rain-slicked earth, he sat up, glaring at the ground with frustration. Oh, duh. Why don't I just walk on the fallen pine needles? He tested one paw on the spongey pile, then another, lifting his first paw: pine needles clung to his wet, muddy pads. Of course. Flicking off the pine needles, he looked up, ready to continue his journey to find DuskClan.

Sure!

Context: Crookedstar just brought Muddypaw back to camp and has made him his apprentice. The weather is a bit rainy. Muddypaw smells of Twolegplace.

Would you like to start?

(Alright. Sorry for my English, Spanish is my native language).

Emberpaw was in front of the apprentice's den, waiting for her mentor to appear. Her green gaze was expressing slight impatience, annoyance and disappoint. She believed that her mentor someday would help her to progress in her training. The clouds started to cry and the patched apprentice thought that the best way to solve her problem was entering to the den. "Ugh, when is he going to train me?". She thought. Suddenly, a shadow appeared from far away, Emberpaw noticed that it was Muddypaw, the leader's apprentice.

Muddypaw entered the camp, carrying a big wad of moss between his jaws. Crookedstar had just shown him around the territory that day, and he was told to collect moss to make his own nest in the apprentice den.

He glanced nervously around the clearing, already forgetting where that was. He then pricked his ears when he noticed the woven branches of a bush, coiled to form a cave-like entrance. A young white cat with orange patches crouched inside. That must be it, thought Muddypaw.

Nearly tripping over his load, he bounded towards the den. He nodded carefully at the other apprentice, and squeezed inside, his moss leaving a thin trail of water droplets behind him.

Emberpaw gave the other apprentice a cheerful smile, she felt relieved that at least, she's with someone, after all the loneliness she usually feels. "Hi Muddypaw, how are you?". She winked an eye in greeting, feeling comfortable with the other apprentice. "Starting a theme, I heard from someone that close to our clan's camp, there's a twoleg's place. It makes me nervous because, I don't know if it's true or not". She mewed and blinked. "Then, in these days, did you smell that twoleg's place?, or at least, do you think it's truth?". She asked, trying to see his opinion.

Muddypaw's fur ruffled at the she-cat's questions. For a few moments he silently patted the damp moss into an empty space in the den. He then straightened, trying to look dignified. "Sure it's true," he finally responded, casually licking the moisture from his chest fur. "But I don't know much about it." He blinked up, actually looking at the other cat this time. "I don't think we've met. What's your name?" He felt awkward. He knows they haven't met. He didn't know the names of anyone in the clan yet other than Crookedstar and Owlmask.

"My name is Emberpaw, I thought you already met me. I guess it was my mistake". She justified, feeling ashamed for her last misunderstanding. "If it's true but, you don't know much about it, then, how are you so sure about it?." The apprentice analyzed his answer. She expected Muddypaw to convince her; the patched she-cat wouldn't believe his words until he proves her wrong.

For a heartbeat, Muddypaw's eyes widened at Emberpaw's followup question. "I passed it on my way to the clan's border. That's all," he replied with a flick of his tail, averting his eyes from her inquisitive, green gaze. Why had she brought up Twolegplace, anyway? He wondered. It then hit him that he didn't yet smell like these cats. The fur on his neck bristled.

Abruptly, he got to his paws and brushed past the other apprentice to exit the den. Not wanting to appear rude, he turned to her and meowed, "Sorry! I just remembered I'm supposed to-- to gather more moss." He nodded as if to confirm this to himself, and stepped out into the rain, which had picked up to a heavy drizzle.

"May I help you?. If you let me, then, it would be less probable for you to get a sickness and you would end your assignment faster". She asked and said an argument to convince Muddypaw; she liked his company and anyways, she hadn't anything else to do, now that her mentor didn't come to train her. Emberpaw expected a positive answer; her gaze decorated with the raindrops' reflection.

Muddypaw pretended not to hear her and splashed off to the camp entrance. The sky began to rumble with thunder. Just as he was about to set a paw outside camp, a hunting patrol returned, quick-footed and eager to escape the worsening weather. A lanky, black tom nearly tripped over the short, gray apprentice. "Hey, watch it," he mumbled behind a mouthful of feathers, amber eyes narrowed against the rain. Muddypaw scooted out of the way and watched as the warriors deposited their catch onto the fresh-kill pile.

A fluffy white she-cat with tawny patches shook her head. "The fresh-kill won't stay fresh if we leave it out in the rain like this." The black tom grunted in agreement. He turned his head and prompted the two apprentices.

"Hey, Emberpaw! You and the newcomer, go find some big leaves so we can cover all this," he ordered, gesturing towards the dampening prey. "Quickly, before the camp gets flooded," he added half-jokingly. Not waiting for a reply, the warriors raced off to the dry shelter of their den, taking some fresh-kill with them since there were no kits or elders to be fed first.

Muddypaw twitched his whiskers in annoyance. Now he has no choice but to let the taller apprentice join him.

(By the way, I already updated Emberpaw's relationships! >u<).

Emberpaw nodded in agreement, although, inside, she didn't want to do it at all and felt obliged. At least, she had something to do and wouldn't stay in the den like a lazy clan member!. She rose from the cozy den and padded to say something to Muddypaw. "I'll search the leaves by the camp's borders. Where do you plan search them?". The patched apprentice asked, believing she would plan something productive with her partner. "Anyways, in the end, I guess we'll gather our results". She said while her coat become wetter by the rain.

Muddypaw groaned inwardly, and decided to just follow Emberpaw and help her gather the leaves as quickly as possible. She probably knew where the best leaves would be anyway, seeing as she's lived in the clan her whole life. Muddypaw was about to suggest moving the fresh-kill into one of the dens, but realized that wasn't exactly sanitary. But...

"Why don't we make that bush next the fresh-kill pile into a sort of den for it?" This idea seemed much better to him, and without waiting for a response, he quickly padded towards the thick, scrubby plants that bordered the camp. He looked back at Emberpaw. Her coat was slick and smooth with rain, while Muddypaw's own fur was thick and clumpy and more likely to get snagged. "You try walking through it to create a tunnel, and I'll fold the tendrils over you and try weaving them into a roof," he directed, his scratchy voice raised in excitement.

"It seems risky but, I guess it wouldn't be a bad idea. I warn you we shouldn't invent too much or someone is going to scold us". Emberpaw said, having bad memories about sermons, specially, the scoldings that her family ever gave her. She wouldn't know if Muddypaw was right if she didn't try his idea!, one never knows who will favor the odds. The patched apprentice followed his instructions; she walked through it to create a tunnel and waited for her clan mate to fold the tendrils and make it into a roof.

Muddypaw was puzzled by the she-cat's response. What cat wouldn't appreciate their improvement to the camp's design? As Emberpaw slid into the thick fronds, the shorter apprentice got up on his hind legs and bent the branches around her spine using his front paws. The next step wasn't as simple. The rain had made the leaves slippery and difficult to wrap together, and the branches would not remain folded without Muddypaw's muddy paws pressing them down. His plan had failed the same minute it was put into action, and the fresh-kill pile wasn't getting any dryer.

"No good. Sorry, Emberpaw," he mumbled, pushing the fronds back to let the white she-cat back out of the bush. He quietly resolved that he'd try again when the leaves had dried off.

Goldenoftheheart In reply to geckoZen [2017-03-12 14:42:26 +0000 UTC]

"Why don't we put the fresh kill-pile under one of the camp's trees?. If it isn't a good idea, at least, we should left it there and think of a new plan". Emberpaw said and fixed her green attention on the fresh kill-pile, that received the raindrops. "My dad would would 'kill' me if he realizes about us having a lack of ideas, or even worse, failing one of our duties". She whispered to herself and touched her scar; the one that was passed by her nose and ended next to her mouth. She is frightened of her father, but, she'd rather shut up and avoid saying a thing about Owlmask.

geckoZen In reply to Goldenoftheheart [2017-03-12 20:05:29 +0000 UTC]

"Of course. The best solution is the simplest, isn't it? Good thinking," the gray cat meowed encouragingly. He didn't understand why, but he could tell that Emberpaw took her duties very seriously. He felt guilty for trying to show off instead of just following orders.

Together, the two apprentices moved all the fresh-kill underneath the nearest tree, which happened to be between the apprentice den and the medicine den. "Perfect. This will keep them dry. We don't even need to pick leaves now," Muddypaw chirped triumphantly. The sky crackled with thunder and lightning briefly lit the gloomy clearing.

(Sorry for the late reply!).

"Exactly and thanks". Muddypaw's words made a glad smile in Emberpaw's face. She helped the other apprentice to move all the fresh-kill to the nearest tree. She felt happy to see how their work had a use. "Yeah!, why we didn't think about this idea before?". She said while her attention was in the tree's green leafs; getting wet with the strong rain. "Looking at the good side: we made it; and we aren't going to disappoint anyone". The tall apprentice commented and put her gaze again on Muddypaw.

(don't worry about it. we can stop at any time. Anyway, I know we're not supposed to 'god-mode' or control other people's cats, but I have an idea...)

"Yeah." Muddypaw met her gaze for a heartbeat, but looked away. Lightning flashed again, this time just above the two cats' heads. A vein of light shot from the clouds and struck the tree they had just put the prey beneath. The two cats instinctively jumped back, letting out an alarm. The tree had caught fire.

Cats streamed from the dens to look at what happened. Snowbelly, whose den was right next to the tree, made it first to the scene. The medicine cat stared at the flame that had begun to whip at the tree, her eyes wide but with curiosity rather than horror.

Batwing, the black cat who had ordered the two apprentices earlier, shouted at them: "Get away from there!" Muddypaw didn't need to be told twice, but just as he leaped away, the flame had been washed out by the heavy rain. Snowbelly continued to stare at the tree, ominously.
