so one day over the break while watching Nick i was surprised to see some old Ren and Stimpy episodes. they weren't the good ones tho made by Spumco. they were the ones made by Game animations (i thnk its called). and so i got to pondering "I miss the old nick shows..." so went online and printed out billions of old nicktoon pics and got to drawing. this is one of the pics i did.

i found ren rather chanlenging to draw for only one reason: his expressions. if you've noticed cartoons nowadays show only the basic emotions and nothing beyond or inbetween. cartoonists today (even the ones in the morning paper) don't know what it is to be a cartoonist. they're cartoon's expressions are so bland! and aspiring cartoonists such as myself are given crap to watch everyday as an example! now it's not that i don't like the cartoons today it's just that everyone seems to be taking a step backward in what we've tried so hard to acomplish. another example would be Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes AKA the best comic srtip ever made. Why? because he pushed the emotions! there was more than just happy, sad, angry on calvin's face. there was alot more. AND ITS ALL 2 DIMENTIONAL. not 3D.don't get me wrong, i LOVE 3D animation. but now all the animated movies are turning 3D. What happened to old fasion drawing? anime (some anime are exceptions), the Power Puff Girls, Jimmy Neutron... all awesome stuff, but where's the REAL cartoon stuff? the only real cartoon i can point out today is Ed, Edd, n Eddy. i think it's time we put what makes cartoons back into cartoons. no more digital crap. there is a certain affect only traditional methods can produce such as a hand drawn line. a computer can't draw a line like we can. we can make any line hold some kind of emotion and bring a drawing to life. a computer can't do that because it lacks emotion. so from now on no computer crap for me, no more emotionless shit. just cartoons my friends. plain old cartoons.
