Somebody has been looting check out the soldier next to the flag bearer - he's got two watches on, he must have gone home with a few souvenirs from GermanyΒ

Yep, probably took em off some dead Jerry's. The boys of the American 101st Airborne did the same thing.Β

Just finished reading "Ivan's War: Life and Death in the Red Army 1939 - 1945" by Catherine Merridale, apparently "arrangements" were made to help soldiers ship some very nice things back home to Soviet Union.Β We're talking Radio sets, furniture and other stuff whose owners were now running for the British and American lines.

Not at all surprising considering such amenities were not common place in the USSR.Β Β

I like Soviet songs. They're very patriotic.

This comes from someone working in West Germany during the Cold War. He was part of NATO's first line of defense, to slow the Soviet army in case war broke out, and give armored calvary time to prepare, known to the Russians as the "speed bump", he was always on the Soviet border, from his position overlooking the Berlin Wall, he saw this:
He saw what looked like 3 or 4 families gathered at the edge of the allowed area, one of them carried a large bundle, wrapped in clothing and towels. They formed a single file line, and charged towards the first of 3 walls. The Soviet guards yelled: "stop, or we'll shoot!" and they kept charging, and the soviets opened fire on them. He saw them dropping left and right as bullets crashed around them. As someone fell carrying the bundle, he threw it back to the person behind him. They ran, and eventually jumped over the first fence, entering the minefield. The guards stopped shooting as they ran over mines specifically made to rip men's legs apart. As someone went down, they would throw the package back or forward to someone else. Finally, they arrived at the second fence, and the guards started shooting again as they cut through the barbed wire with clippers. Finally, just a few people left alive from the Russian fire, the last person made it to the fence, to throw the package over onto the NATO side, and then fall over dead from the Soviet guards. Not a single person survived that charge, out of the 3 families. When he, the witness, went along to check the package with the other NATO guards, they found inside was a baby. All of those people had gave their lives so that that single baby could grow up and live in the free Western world.
Soviet love has always bothered me, but for the 14+ million innocent people that died in Gulags, I find that they're worse than Nazis. I would rather see someone use a Swastika as an avatar and hail Hitler, than that Communist flag, stained red with blood of the innocent.

Cooler than the flag of the Russian Federation ? It has 2 more colors, decently combined and thus less monotonous.

We all have our taste on flags, Russia still practically waves the old flag around anyways, they even still have pictures of Lenin hanging up in certain places no joke !... I dislike communism but love the old flag I know that sounds weird

You probably heard about Russian wedding tradition, that after ceremony in church, the spouses in Russia put flowers at the nearest monument of Lenin. Or the way they behave when visiting foreign country [link] .
As for feelings towards the communist flag, it does not sound weird, more like intentional bleaching the symbol of wicked regime, that caused death of more people than Nazism did.

I'm saying RTJDudek is not liberal. He hates socialists and communists, and is so too much of an idiot that he believes fascism and communism came from the same source when they are two different ideologies.
