Description commodore based on the information and illustrations supplied by the rebel, Commodore john paul jones. hope you like it, this however isnt the tribute i promised! i copied the design from your picture of norrington, but the cuffs are obscured so we shan't know how accurate it is. i saw a nice pic of a commaders day uniform in a book so ive attempted that too (you'll have to wait) but i hope this is a palpable hit!

Very well done, if I may say so, Sir! "E looks ev'ry bit the part of a Commodore!

I've got a tribute commin your way as well. Here's a hint:

June, 1944
Normandy, France

"General Vyse, this is Captain Van Valkenburg. He dropped in with the 101st over St. Mere-Egliese."
*Salutes* "General, pleasure to meet you."
*Returns salute* "And you."
"So, what's Monty got you doin'?"
"Oh, not much, just liberating as many villages as we can."
"Well, Ike's got us dug in at Carentan, wondered if you needed anyone to cover your flank."

its a 1796 pattern cavalry sabre by the way, best sword for fighting with - apparently, so i thought maybe this guy had the one they based the rest on?

Well, the popular weapon amongst the common sailor was the cutlass, short blade, good for close combat on a cramped deck. Midshipman were issued dirks, lieutenants had a hanger- a more ornate and slightly longer version of the cutlass. Captains and on up used a light saber, nothing heavy and clumsily large. So you got the look right. But if you were to compare the one you've drawn to another of a cavalry saber, you'd see that the cavalry's weapon is considerably larger. Most captains used a pair of sea service pistols (they did not waer them unless in battle) and lieutenants usually one pistol. Common sailors liked having hatchets and axes as sidearms, and if the captain was wealthy enough to purchase a crews' worth, a single pistol.
