Description WW1 US ARMY UNIFORM

Corporal Johnson, 2nd army, US Army Ordnance Corps.

The Uniform itself is completely original, however, the webbing is reproduction but of a High standard.

Early in the War, the Yanks did borrow SMLE's (The rifle) where their Own Sprignfields were absent.

I do have a steel helmet, campaign hat, springfield bayonet and Respiratro, however they are not shown in this photograph

Dear god. A WW1 loadout!!! I wish I could find that stuff here in the US.

The Uniforms are cheaper than the Britsh ones of the period, and this particular webbing is from 'Schipperfabrik' I can't remember where they're based, but they certainly are popular in the USA.

If you have the money, you should invest, it's suit you!

My original campaign hat is too small, but I have a Brown 'Yogi Bear' hat that I use instead sometimes.

Je suis desole M'sieur!

I do have full WW1 British other ranks uniform now, to go with my officers, I just havent got round to photographing it, I also have 90% of WW1/2 Highland uniform, Kilts etc.

I saw that one of your Brethren has won the VC recently, it reminded me of you, the recent floods too - I suspect you've been busy!

PS. Also seen some nice devonshire uniforms, but nothing as good as the one you already have; I keep an eye out for a Home service helmet for you as well.

You are too kind. The helmet would top off that uniform all too well. I saw one from the Buffs here in Aus in 100% perfect condition, but the chap wanted 700 pounds for it (1200 Australian).

Indeed, another one of our SAS chaps, who has my first name too. The floods have been taking place in the north, in Queensland. Victoria has not been so affected, and our Regiment has not been called out to assist like it was for the bush fires in early 2009.

I have about 6 uniforms I haven't shown anyone yet, including RM, BW, SG, and Navy, all now more or less complete. Just need to get up and take a few photos.

They certainly do, I'm not sure what it is that does it, a bit more figure hugging maybe, the Puttees (leg bandages) are very smart!

It's so hard to find reference pictures of WWI uniforms, at least for me. Do you recommend any sources (besides your own uniforms, which are awesome!)?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GeneralVyse In reply to Silvre [2011-01-26 20:20:41 +0000 UTC]

If it's for reference only, I recommend Flickr - you cant save the pictures, but you can 'print screen' them!

Other than that, try the Osprey books - I can give you some titles if you need them.

One day, I will do some more useful poses, action shots etc. which may be of more use to you!
