For me, Deviant Art was where I actually started getting some interest in my commission work. When I first started out, no one seemed to be interested at all, but that was likely cause no one knew me at all either. Things are still slow, and people still only seem to know me a little in the larger scheme of things, but I have found other deviants here and there that have an interest in my work enough to hire me for projects.

On thing I didn't foresee when I started out either was that working on commissions here would help my art to improve. Art College hadn't turned out to be that great of an experience for me, though not all of it was bad, but when I finally left, my confidence in myself and as an artist had taken a hit heavy enough, that I could not find the desire or inspiration to create for more then half a year. This shaken artistic confidence is something that plagues me even still, but getting into doing commission work here has slowly helped to build that confidence back up, as well as building up my artistic skill.
Just about every new project I get comes with some sort of challenge, or if the commissioner lets me, I'm allowed to add my own challenges to a project. On commissions alone, I have started learning how to add rain effects to an image, paint sand, draw objects I'd never worked with before, and not to mention how much quicker I am at drawing anatomy I am now and laying down a drawing in general.

And of course, through this whole process, I've made some really cool friends, and reconnected with ones I hadn't seen or talked to in years. ^.^

I chose each one of these drawings to show some of my progression as an artist through my commission work, starting with one of the very first commissions I ever took here on DA.
