Wow... I just found this today after searching for images of "Battle of Manticore". Wow. Magnifique. I too wish we had such detailed covers in North America, but then again I buy the pocket version. Plus, the illustrator here is named David Mattingly, whom I must assume is relevant to David Weber simply with the name. Je ne savais pas que l'Honovers? (c'est quoi Honorverse en français?) est traduit. And with twice the covers too =]
I don't know if you've ever seen this trailer? They also reduced the size of the wedge. Too bad it's a game that never will be...

Oh and one last thing before I stop procrastinating: your treecats (what are they called in French?) actually look fluffy and cute. Sur les plus vieux livres, on dirait des lynx. Sur les plus récent, on dirait des... « displacer beast » de Donjons et Dragons.

I wondered why you speak english and few words in a good French. And I've seen that you are canadian, so it's less strange
I'm happy that you like my work.
In French we have kept the word "Honorverse", it's clear enough for us.
And we have two covers because the French edition is divided int two volumes. The books of this publisher are smaller than american version. So they have to divide the novel or the final version would be too thick (like a kind of "pavement-stone" ).
And yes, I know this trailer. It's sad that the game never won't be.
In French we call treecats "les Chats sylvestres", do you understand these words ? I think that it's a good choice for them.

I love your art, in this one we see a treecat tending towards the author's vision, but I think his written description of a weasel like body means even more grasile body. Three fingers not four, and longer fingers than human hands. The tail is usually flat with a hairless griping surface on the bottom side and fur on the top, it's curled into a tube only in the cold of winter and should not look like a normal Terrain cat's tail. It's prehensile visit a zoo and look at American howler monkeys and their use of a prehensile tail for inspiration if you want one in a tree.

This is a gorgeous composition. Especially Honor and Nimitz amidst the wreckage.
A good job on the Prince Adrian. It's difficult in that I don't think the physics of the honorverse lend itself well to visual interpretation. Impeller drives are much larger and laser heads would be detonating from well "off page" as it were, but this captures the feeling of it beautifully.
If I have one critique it's about the Ransom side of the image. I think the banners in the background are too sharp for the rest of the piece when seen all at once as it is here, although I could see how it works when bent around a book and therefore is on its own.
But Ransom herself looks wrong to me. I always pictured her dressed in something more civilian and unique. She hated the military and all of the trappings of rules and honor implied by it. More importantly she saw herself above everyone around her and as The defender of "citizens." I understand how State Security is supposed to be the parallel of Soviet, Nazi, and other internal security organizations, but at the same time I would think her personality would be insulted by the concept of wearing any type of uniform. She doesn't see herself as part of Public Information or State Security, she sees those organizations as her tools to do with as she sees fit.

About the spaceship (and all that stuff): yes, that's true, I can't respect 100% of the history/universe because it won't be good to create an illustration. You can't see a ship from abother one, the wrecks are so huge that you can't draw a ship and his wrecks like I did them, etc.
So I have to make a mix between the rules of this universe and the "rules" to obtain a good illustration ^^
About the look of Ransom. Well, I think that you are right. She hates military so much that it would be impossible for her to wear a unifom. On the moment, when I drew her, I've forgot that part of the character. I wanted to draw the "quintessence" (don't know if you have the same word in english) of her and all her service in one person. If I have to draw her again, I think that I will give her a dress.

Yessss, une nouvelle couverture!
Avec cette fanatique psychopathe de Cordelia Ransom. S'il y a bien un des caractères que j'ai vraiment détesté dans la saga, c'est celle-là. Elle porte un manteau qui me rappelle les officiers soviétiques de la NKVD, je suppose que cela n'est pas dû au hasard. Nimitz est tout mignon...quoique le voir dans une scène où il est moins mignon ne m'aurait pas déplu: celle ou il saute à la figure du garde havrien qui agresse Honor.
Pas mal de représenter ce croiseur avec ses bandes gravifiques...à moins que ce ne soit celles de la petite pinasse savamment trafiquée par ce bon vieux Horace Harkness!

En effet ça n'est pas un hasard, je me suis inspiré de vêtements russes/soviétiques et chinois. En terme d'uniforme, je trouve que l'urss, la chine communiste et l'allemagne sont de bonnes sources d'inspiration pour ce genre de contexte.
J'aurai aussi voulu dessiner Nimitz se jetant au visage des gardes tandis qu'Honor en "explose" un autre. Cette scène soulage énormément quand elle arrive enfin, on regrette juste que Cordelia s'en sorte in extremis. Elle méritait bien une balafre ou un nez en contre relief 
Hélas, cette scène n'a pas lieu dans le premier tome. De plus, ça aurait montré une image qui n'est pas forcément représentative de l'histoire en elle-même. Une couverture doit être une sorte de résumé de tout le livre. Du coup je ne peux pas toujours représenter une scène spécifique. Aussi chouette soit-elle. A moins qu'elle symbolise bien l'ambiance du roman dans son ensemble ou que ce soit LA scène par excellence (combat au sabre dans pavillon d'exil, bataille dans coûte que coûte, etc).
Je voulais plus mettre sur l'accent sur la détresse d'Honor (entre ses sentiments pour Havre Blanc et sa reddition) et le lien qui se renforce avec Nimitz...
Ca fait 2 fois que je veux le dessiner dans une scène de combat : pavillon d'exil et ici... J'espère avoir l'occasion de le faire un jour...
A propos du vaisseau, dans mon esprit c'est plutôt le croiseur d'Honor au moment où elle est vaincue et capturée.

Mais je ne désespère pas. Il y a plusieurs images que j'ai en tête et que je n'ai pas encore eu l'occasion de dessiner (pas forcément dans cet ordre):
Theisman, un vaisseau qui se disloque, une scène d'action pure et dure, une passerelle de commandement en pleine activité, Nimitz dans ses exploits, etc. Pleiiiin d'idées. Mais je ne dois pas perdre de vue que ça doit attendre jusqu'à ce que l'opportunité se présente. Mes dessins doivent être au service de l'histoire, et non au service de mes petites envies

The Redish tint in the background behind Prince Adrian give the cover a much more 'evil' feel than most of your other covers. (Then again, the whole book is practically evil, so it works.)
The ship itself is quite detailed and I like you concept of the wedge and of the missiles. It adds to the overall 'doom and gloom' which most of IEH is known for.
Honor's pose and Nimitz is something which I really like, especially the dusty-fog which has settled around her. Very eerie.
And you put even put the evil mistress of the Committee herself on the cover. *Cue evil music* Cordelia Ransom.
You concept of her is very close to what I imagined she would look like. (Though I always imagine her dressed in black with some sort of red necklace which would represent StateSec.)
The ominous lighting (from the red nebula-like thing behind Adrian) and whatever she is dressed in (can't decide whether it’s a coat or a dress) makes it easy for any new readers to the book to be able connect her as the Ransom in the book and not anyone else.
Also, the planet is nice, I really like the redish tint... actually… it's more like someone took Mars and dumped red food dye all over it and gave it an atmosphere as a final touch. (And I mean that as a compliment!)
Taking a wild guess at it, but it looks like Hell... Yes I meant the planet Cerberus.
Am I right about what planet it is?
Thanks for posting you art here on dA. Even with my frequent travels to the Honorverse wiki site, I probably never would have discovered your artwork. I'm glad that you decided to do the art for French versions of the HHverse.
Also another question:
Since you’re an artist for a publishing company, and I highly doubt you just ran across HHverse in your own free time.
Did you think it was a good series, because I've seen many people, HHverse fans included, call Honor a *Mary Sue*, a term for characters that are perfect and can never be killed.
I was introduced to the HHverse series by my own boredom, and almost didn't read the series because I had first picked up The Shadow of Saganami. Too many details and political scenes. But I learned the error of my ways. Now you see where it brought me. I'm a fanatic.
So how did you first react to it, and do you think you would have read this series if you had just randomly found it in a book store?

About Cordelia's clothes :
It's a mix between a dress and some military/secret services uniforms of the ussr, the old communist china and the third reich. All these uniforms are good inspiration sources for the heavenite security service.
The planet : yes, in my mind, it's Cerberus. The planet is Hell, so I wanted to show it
The other question 
i don't have a lot of free time since three years. I work between 70 and 120 hours per week. No week-end, no holidays... To be perfectly frank, in march, I had ten days of Vacation. My first vacation since 17 years, it was great! So I don't have a lot of free time.
Sometimes I read some Honorverse's books, because I like the universe. I read other novels too, written by Johann Heliot, Jean-Christophe Chaumette, Corinne Guitteaud (Great French SF authors), Terry Pratchett... Otherwise I play to Deus Ex3, civilization, total wars, mass effect, halo
I didn't know the honorverse before my publisher asked me to draw the covers. But I like the serie so I read some honorverse books sometimes.
The only trouble for me is that the more I read the serie, the less I worry for Honor. She is a little like "Jason bourne". She stay "pure and wise", she never feels rage or real anger. She survive to everything...
I hope that after "osyter bay" she will be less "smooth" and will express other feelings.
She lost so many friends, so many people... It would be interresting to show it in her actions. Not only a small moment of sadness.
For example, I love "the shadow of saganami", "Torche", Therkov, Cachat, Anton because I can't guess what they will do, how their stories will end. They can be both evil and nice.
Don't misunderstand me, I love the original serie. I'm fan of several books. I just would like to be surprised again. As I was at the beginning.
But that will be complicated for mr.Weber. Now Honor is very strong, powerfull and rich.
Maybe we need that Honor receives a really bad new (Oyster bay ?) or she has to loose something VERY important for her : husband, friend, child or whatever.
An event that can't let honor "perfect and stoic". (I haven't read the new book yet, maybe it would have changed my answer)
But you have to remember one thing : my only regret is that I couldn't appreciate the story like a real reader because I didn't read it in the right order. If my memory is good, I've started by "at all costs", then "flag in exile" and "war of honor", "the shadow of saganami" (...). So that killed the suspens for me. I can't worry about Honor in the twelve first books because I already know that she will become admiral, lord, rich... Do you understand me ?
I think that I would have liked more the story If I had started by the first book.

Well, actually Honor was suppose to die, I think, originally at the Battle of Manticore, and her son/daughter(at the time it wasn't known) was suppose to take over.
BUT the fans loved Honor so much, and she had gained such a following, the DW decided not to kill her off. As there probably would have been a very big backlash against it.
I must say I probably would have cried my eyes out if she had died, but would have been happy if some of my favorites survived (Thomas Theisman, Lester Tourville, Hamish Alexander, Alice Truman.)
Now what I'm afriad of is that all my favorite characters will be wiped out (especially Thomas Theisman, I really like him,) and only Honor will be left standing.
And one thing, now that Honor is still living, is that Hamish can't die. Nor can her son. Though I'd be willing (though VERY unhappy) to accept Hamish's death if it is a good death (defending his son, daughter and wives, lets say.)
And you're not the only one who started in the wrong place. I really did start at The Shadow of Saganami. And I did learn, by the 2nd or 3rd time reading it, that Honor is an Admiral, rich, famous and overall amazing. Then I realized 'I'm doing it wrong' and started with Basilisk Station. I also was able to figure out all the tech (Like Dragon's Teeth) before they were invented in the main series.
The next book, called A Rising Thunder, is a great book. Honor does get all emotional after a battle(not telling who it was against) and she has some new friends to help her through it. She isn't perfect in this book, but there is a lot of political scenes and little action.
The book after A Rising Thunder is the one which supposedly contains all the action.

I've read an article or something like that where Mr. Weber explained that he had planified to kill her and had changed his mind. I understand him, it would be very hard for all Honor's fans. I only would like to have more surprises about what she feels and her reactions in the futures books.
I think that she has lived so many battles, so many incredible situations, she have lost so many friends and colleagues... And now, she knows who is her real enemy (Deitweiler and his friends) so I hope that she will be..."implacable" or something like that (is it the right word in english ?)

Ooh, I like the representation of the Wedge. Not to scale, of course, but then if it was to scale either the warship would be the size of a grain of rice or the book cover would be the size of a wall.
It suggests things without giving them away any more than the title does, which is nice, and the depiction of (who I assume to be) Cordelia Ransom hints at her nature. Nice work.

Yeah, I know, I don't respect the scale. But, as usual (and as you said), I have to take some liberty with the story if I want to represent some cool scenes. With the real spatial scale, I couldn't do anything

When I was writing my fic, I went for dual-layer screen systems (Wedge and the inner Battle Screen) because that way it lets me have shorter range, more immediately comprehensible fights. That and it means fighter-type ships aren't too easily shot down. As usual, it's all about picking the rules of the universe so that things sound nice.
(In the Honorverse, it's set up for Napoleonic-style battles, mine is a bit more WWII in terms of how there are a lot more "true" fighters around. Interesting stuff.)
Yeah, the sad fact is that the naked eye can't actually see much of a space battle. One tabletop game uses ship models on stands, and comments how "the real ship is actually underneath the centre of the stand, but the model is much larger so we can see it".

Yes, over time he's been making advances that parallel real world ones. Off-bore targeting is turreted superfiring guns, missile pods have no real parallel, Apollo is radar gunnery...

I think you mean the Apollo missile? The one with the larger one controlling eight smaller ones. Since it's a classical reference in the original English, it can be kept the same in all Romance languages without even a loss of meaning. (Since Apollo was the god who is seen in the Iliad shooting Greek troops).
