I have a question, regarding the blank 1850 Norris locomotive. Do you know if any railroads that once ran them?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Pokermind In reply to SecondChanceJunkyard [2018-05-10 12:23:07 +0000 UTC]

Not specifically, White notes that it is a standard product made by the largest builder at the time 1849-1853.Β  The round top boiler with it's many small pieces went out of favor, the wagon top boiler, the spread truck and level cylinders were firmly entrenched by 1860.Β

SecondChanceJunkyard In reply to Pokermind [2018-05-10 14:19:06 +0000 UTC]

I see. Baldwin built a locomotive that resembled this, didn't it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Pokermind In reply to SecondChanceJunkyard [2018-05-10 22:31:47 +0000 UTC]

Yes, Baldwins usually had an outside frame with the round top boiler

Ah I see. I haven't found any references to which railroad used the Norris 4-4-0 yet, except for the one in Latin America.

John White Jr.'s book American Locomotives page 316 shows an 1849 Norris of the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago Railroad's Beaver, and page 229 shows a cab less 1849 Norris of the Philadelphia and Columbia Railroad's Tigoa.Β  Several Norris locomotives are shown in photos from George B. Abdill's Civil War Railroads see page 63, 79, & 164.Β  The page 164 photograph has Several Norris locomotives shown Hercules of the Georgia Railroad built in 1850, E. Y. Hill of the Atlanta & LaGrange Railroad built in 1852.

professorwagstaff In reply to Pokermind [2016-06-06 16:46:57 +0000 UTC]

I don't know how long you've been drawing but I've been at it now for about 15 years, and I draw almost daily. So believe me when I tell you that my skill set has grown but only because of repetition and asking others questions. Β I started by using a graph system. It got me used to putting things where they belong and of course I have read a few instructional books and learned a few tricks along the way.
Your drafting skills are top notch. Never belittle what you do, it's unique to you and you do it very well. Β I took 4 years of drafting in High School but nothing came of it. Β There are people who tell me that they can see my drafting skills in my drawing, so don't give up. Β Keep working at it, it will come.
