Description Badroulbadour ("full moon of full moons") is an Asian princess from China whom Aladdin married in the story of Aladdin and the Magic Lamp. When Aladdin finds the magic lamp he discovers that it contains a djinni that is bound to do the bidding of the person holding the lamp. With the aid of the djinni, Aladdin becomes rich and powerful and marries princess Badroulbadour. In the animated version of Aladdin made by Disney, her name was changed to Jasmine and she was an Arabian princess instead, presumably for the convenience of Western voice actors and viewers.

I know this was some time ago but I feel I need to clarify something.

Disney may have talen some liberties with the story (most notably replacing the two villains with the thief of baghdad's version of Jaffar, but they didn't change the setting to the middle east. All other, previous retellings and adaptations did that before, because that's where it really takes place. Sure the story claims it takes place in china, but that was either a bit of, well, exaggeration on the storyteller's part, or more likely, a change made by the person who collected the story, to conform to the standards of 18th century European romances that regularly used China as a setting of choice, since Marco Polo's accounts (which may or may not have been fictional) became public. China was an ideal "far away , exotic land", a setting that is a mandatory element of every romance, but typically, and alladin is an excellent example of this, the people who did this had zero knowledge of chinese culture, resulting in their version of china to be suspiciously similar to the middle east.

Badroulbadour is arabic name by the way, even Aladdin is a arabic name which is strange that the story took place in China unless they were muslim which makes sense!

Well that's indeed what happened. See the Arabian Nights tales were exotic tales told in Arabic. And as exotic tales, they told of events in fanciful places... like China.

I'm not sure where I found out about this first, but wikipedia says the following on the subject:

Although Aladdin is a Middle Eastern tale, the story is set in China, and Aladdin is explicitly Chinese. [5] However, most of the people in the story are Muslims; there is a Jewish merchant who buys Aladdin's wares (and incidentally cheats him), but there is no mention of Buddhists or Confucians . Everybody in this country bears an Arabic name, and its monarch seems much more like a Muslim ruler than a Chinese emperor. Some commentators believe that this suggests that the story might be set in Turkestan (encompassing Central Asia and the modern Chinese province of Xinjiang ). [6] It has to be said that this speculation depends on a knowledge of China that the teller of a folk tale (as opposed to a geographic expert) might well not possess, [7] and that a deliberately exotic setting is in any case a common storytelling device.

Whoa........it could be said that Jasmine's got a bit of a bold outfit, the way it's set up. But this........this outfit isn't bold, it's downright throwing out there!!!

Excellent job regardless of the outfit, though! I especially love how the Tiger, aka Rajja(may be misspelled), came out.

You did give her that Asiatic look to her. I also think that her hair and the blue cloth force people to see Jasmine. I wouldn't care either way, it's still a great pic.

The only critique I have is that the picture doesn't pop out, like the other female poses you drew. This picture has a softer feel to it and I like it.

I am so not being a pervert, because I'm a girl. I'm just so shocked and amazed that 'Jasmine' was really based off of an Asian princess. I am a HUGE fan of anything Asian, ever since seeing the Disney movie Mulan. Please make more pics of this cool Baddroubadour! I'm trying to pronounce her name as I typed it, but it is so hard. XD
