Description Hi guys, long time without posting anything. Long story in short: some family issues got me away by the last month, but I´m back now. This is a draw done time ago about a tradition of Los Andes called Tinku, wich is a Fight/dance... I think I know this two guys fighting, but not sure, where they are from? O_O

LET´S WIKIATTACK

Tinku, a Bolivian Aymara tradition, began as a form of ritualistic combat. In the Aymara language, it means “meeting-encounter.” During this ritual, men and women from different communities will meet and begin the festivities by dancing. The women will then form circles and begin chanting while the men proceed to fight each other; rarely the women will join in the fighting as well. Large tinkus are held in Potosí during the first few weeks of May.  The story behind this cultural dance is that long ago, the Spanish conquistadors made the indigenous people their slaves. Tinku dance costumes are colorful and decorative. Men wear an undershirt, pants, jacket, sandals (abarcas), and hard helmet like hats. Even though the people were slaves, they loved to dance, and would often fight, but never really hurting each other.  Because of the rhythmic way the men throw their fists at each other, and because they stand in a crouched stance going in circles around each other, a dance was formed. This dance, the Festive Tinku, simulates the traditional combat, bearing a warlike rhythm.

During the brawl itself, men will often carry rocks in their hands to have greater force in their punches, or they will just throw them at opponents. Sometimes, especially in the town of Macha in Potosí, where the brawl gets the most violent, men will wrap strips of cloth with shards of glass stuck to them around their fists to cause greater damage. Slingshots and whips are also used, though not as much as hand-to-hand combat.[2] The last day of the fight is considered the most violent and police almost always have to separate the mass of bloody men and women.

I have a buddy who got involved in breaking this up once when a friend of his was getting sorely beaten to a pulp.  He said it was the most amusing and interesting beating he ever took.  No real harm to him, but his pal just didn't know when to quit so he was pretty rough.

You forgot to mention that they usually drink alcoholic beverages before doing the fighting.

CLcris In reply to Persona22 [2018-03-09 21:46:40 +0000 UTC]

Usually, but that's not that relevant since it's normal to drink during a celebration no matter where you live, I'm I wrong? Alcohol is there but is not a part of the celebration itself.

Persona22 In reply to CLcris [2018-03-10 02:05:41 +0000 UTC]

Maybe so, but it is "part of the tradition" and he didn't mention it. Was pointing it out.

So, if I'm getting this right, the fighting itself is basically a more violent version of Capoeira .
Disguising fighting as dancing in the days of slavery was more common than I thought, the things you learn in GENZOMAN's gallery. ^^
