And now I've totally lost the interest to color it, heh!
RANT:
My drive to make this a great piece of fanart has really dried up. Akatsuki has become the biggest joke in manga history in my opinion. It's sad to know that the reputation of this group has deteriorated, the evil aura of this organization disappeared as the manga runs. The only Akatsuki that has impressed me is Kakuzu and Hidan. At least they were pure evil, which is what Akatsuki should be. These two failed me, especially Pain. Itachi was a big joke too. I'm not expecting so much from this manga anymore, its like it lost its life. Reading it is like reading those fantasy storybooks with moral lessons at the end. I was a fan, but not anymore. No matter how impressive the new jutsus will be, the cute pairings are, who ends up together with who, I do not care anymore.
No offense, these are just my opinions.

I think it's true too. Masashi's going too fast on the fast track of the manga. Maybe a little antagonism coming from Konan would've been better atleast. But what knocks it all of down is the fact that Sasuke is a leaded character, he has now drive of his own, he's just going along with what he's told, rebels against others and goes for the kill. It would be nice to see some controversy coming from him too. But I'm still a faithful fan of the manga, probably Masashi will show an explanation about Nagato and Konan in the future like he has in the past.

I agree entirely on your assessment of Naruto. It's just...ugh. I don't much care for it anymore. I found that the only villan that stayed a decent villan was Orochimaru and Kabuto. I mean honestly. And then they got killed off (or went insane I guess) and now it's all just crap. Everything is just so...ugh. I mean, Pain giving his life to revive Konoha after he spent his whole life striving to destroy it? Cop out much? Whatever. I've given up on it.

Nice. A coherent and valid none flaming opposing point to Naruto. It's a shame you know longer care about the series. Your Bleach artwork is awesome I'd have liked to see more of your Naruto artwork. I hope you keep enjoying and drawing Bleach at least.

Awesome picture nonetheless, I agree with you though the manga turned me off a while back that's why Ive stuck with Bleach and haven't looked back since.

The Pein twist did happen way to fast. Its understandable though, since he pretty much just changed his opinion on how peace could be achieved. Still could've been prolonged though.
Truthfully the only reason I'm still reading Naruto is to see what happens when Sasuke and Naruto finally clash again, and to see what the hell is up with Madara/Tobi (I wanna see his face!!!). And I kind of want to see if Naruto actually becomes Hokage (although its almost inevitable with him being the most powerful shinobi in Konoha).

I'm a total Akatsuki whore so I may be a bit biased
but I do have respect your opinions as they vary from person to person.
But those types of characters are my kryptonite. I totally love the good guys that are with the bad guys. Or pure evil bastards with a tormented past. (ie Gaara,Pain, Itachi)
I felt the same way about Bleach for a while too. I actually dropped it after the SS arc. I picked it back up after my friend who knows my hatred for Rukia told me to pick up the manga again just so that I could see Rukia almost die. Kept with it and fell in love with Harribel.
Anyways. Awesome pick though. Shame it won't see color.
I may pick it up and give it a go.

Good point. But even evil people are human. They are subject to change. Even Harry Potter tried to help Voldemort change. Pain (Pein, or whatever his name was) had been long affected by his master Jaraiya (I think that's how you spell it). Obi-wan affected Vader the same way, and it took another of his master's disciples to show him the light. So, in a way, Naruto is a Star Wars rip off. Wait. What did I just say?

vader just turned good at episode 3, and the story of star wars is epic in many ways. he turned good yes, but it was well justified and not rushed

I admit, I used to like Akatsuki more than I do now. I wasn't really pleasantly surprised to find out that Pein, Konan and Itachi had good intentions from the beginning. (I don't read the manga but I've read Wikipedia 
... Anyway, based on what I know, Kakuzu, Hidan, Kisame and Madara are the only ones that maintained/maintain the evil that Akatsuki was supposed to represent in the first place. Maybe Kisame didn't know that Itachi had good intentions? Maybe Kisame was Itachi's friend without knowing about them? Please correct me if this has been made clear in the manga though. But, I'd say that Kisame is more evil than good.
So, I guess it's not a surprise that Kisame, Kakuzu and Hidan are my favourites of the Akatsuki.
What's wrong with fantasy stories with moral lessons? Even Bleach and One Piece are a bit like that. 
I still am a fan of Naruto (kinda, at least). But I definitely prefer One Piece and Bleach.

not only the akatsuki, but the whole Naruto title is a mess already, i think. everything happened so quickly, even readers couldn't keep up. and the changes shown were not minor twists but a full 360 turn fron heel to face, including deaths and revivals?!

I almost forgot about Zetsu. I think he's pretty evil too.
Oh and I like this piece, regardless of what Akatsuki has become. It looks cool without colours.
By the way, Geoff, have you started reading/watching One Piece? I recommended it to you after commissioning the Kid and Law piece, and you said that the commission made you want to read/watch it. ^^

I think everyone is just waiting to see Naruto vs Sauske. You're right about Akatsuki, but I think Zetsu and Madara will raise the evil stakes, Madara in particular

I think they are gonna kill each other, but Sakura will use the technique that the old women form the sand village used to save gaara on one of them....and it'll be naruto she'll tell him she loves him and itll be such a sugary sweet ending everyone reasing will have a diabetic fit
As for Madara he has given a story were he was a victim to Sauske but i get the feeling its all been down to him, i bet he took his brothers eyes as apposed to them being gifted to him and I have a feeling he has something to do with the orders itachi recieved to kill all the Uchia. I really think (or maybe it's just hope) that he's gonna remain evil

Ya, it is pretty much ruined now. I still read it, just to see the final battle(or Madara really for that matter) but overall, Bleach, even One Piece is killing Naruto in terms of respect among fans. Sad in the way that it really started my liking of Anime, good in the way that atleast it ending will give room for some of the better Manga out there. Good piece either way though

its not about being pure. my point is that the characters are introduced in a menacing scary way, then sudden changes happens (major changes), one after the other, massive people die and revive (including main characters), whats next?

It's still a beautiful piece of work, Geoff! But I agree whole-heartedly. The manga just abandons character development sometimes-- it happened with Gaara all too quickly, and now it's happening to Akatsuki. I like this pair, but the way Pain did a complete three-sixty...Bah.
