What's this!? It's MOTHER fan art! MOTHER, a Famicom RPG that was never released out of Japan, but was oddly translated to English - the prequel to the underplayed and unappreciated SNES game, EarthBound.Yes! The world of MOTHER is my new obsession, I recently (or more like two weeks ago) played and beat EarthBound, and fell in LOVE with everything related to it. Now I am playing its prequel, where in I control a group of kids with Psychokinetic powers, who must save their mother Earth from some aliens, while fighting possessed cars, Lil' UFOs, giant robots, and maybe a Hippie or two.
From left to right, they are: Loid, Ninten (yes, that boy's name is Ninten, he is supposed to look like Ness, but not exactly... can you tell the differences?) and Ana - each kid is carrying the type of "weapon" they can equip, and Loid and Ana have a Franklin Badge. I drew them closer to the EarthBound style, because it's way cuter and the MOTHER clay figurine of Ninten is like the creepiest thing ever. ._.
I really like the coloring in this (with color pencils of course), did put a lot of time and effort in it, and I want sum advanced critique plz, and what I wanna mean with that is: Be mean!
Well, the only thing I don't like is Ana's head shape... and that sorry excuse for a background that I did instead.

(BTW: I don't know what exactly is happening in it, I still don't get to that part of the game lol).
P.S.: It's said that EarthBound is finally gonna be released in the Wii Virtual Console, if it really comes out: get it! ...And don't let the battle system fool you, the game is really good.

Very nicely done ;D And I have to agree with you, Earthbound is one of the greatest games ever, and I too have been a bit obsessed with it lately.
The ad for Mother 1 is weird, but incredibly epic at the same time. Just that slogan,"No Crying Until the End" is just amazing, especially if you have beaten the game, because it's just put together so nicely, and has such a meaningful message.
Anyways, great picture, adding it to my favorites.

I've seen artwork of Ninten before and frankly speaking (although I have no right to since I don't know much) he looks a lot like Ness here with the way you drew him. :] I'm probably one of those who haven't played Mother either.

Well, that's why everybody always give him a scarf and a different shirt like in the commercial, but they are supposed to look very alike - and actually, they are almost the same character (like every Link in almost every Zelda game), except that Ninten has asthma and Ness doesn't, he just gets homesick often. You can compare Ness' clay model [link] with Ninten's clay model [link] .

¡¡Mother!! You did a great job on this Geo, specially drawing the mother characters closer to the mother 2 (earthbound) style.
Just to say, Ninten felt different to Ness because they were drawn in different styles but when you "earthboundized" the mother 1 crew, they look almost identcal o.o
Anyway, great job!!!

De hecho, esa fue parte de mi intencion, hacer que Ninten se pareciera mucho a Ness (ya que todo el mundo lo dibuja muy diferente, y con la ropa del comercial japones).

¡Ah vale! es que recuerdo aquella vez que emepzamos a charlar con respuestas muuuy largas y dijiste que mejor ocultarlas por si acaso resultaba chocante para los angloparlantes, por eso no sabia si contestar en español XD
Fan lo que se dice fan de MOTHER... verás, con esta saga tengo sentimientos contradictorios... por un lado adoro los tres juegos y todo lo que tiene que ver con ellos pero por otro, en cierta manera le tengo cierto odio (perdon por la redundancia) porque nintendo jamas se ha dignado a lanzarla de verdad fuera de japon, es como si lo considerasen un coto privado japones y eso me da rabia... claro que por otra parte es una saga "de culto" y aunque los hardcoretas como yo la demandemos desde hace tiempo, en parte entiendo a Itoi y nintendo ya que no es una saga que conecte directamente con el gran publico (Mother 3 apenas vendio en japon sin ir mas lejos) con lo que a la vez entiendo que no se atrevan a lanzarla en occidente como es debido... no se, es una contradiccion de emociones XDDD
Aun asi, si ignoro las circunstancias que rodean a la serie MOTHER y los juzgo como juegos en si, claro que me gustan, me encantan. Aunque como te imaginaras no me he pasado ninguno, jamas llego mother alguno a europa :_( y tampoco he tenido le tiempo de ponerme a pasarme el earthbound (mother 2) en ingles en emulador....

Es que aquella vez ocupamos casi toda la PRIMERA pagina de varios comentarios que ya eran monólogos.
De hecho, si le preguntaron a Reggie que si quería lanzar el MOTHER 3 a América en Ingles, el fue el que dijo que no, esta hasta en una entrevista (Te recomiendo que visites [link] si quieres saber mas sobre eso), y ya vez que si un juego no sale en América, esta aun mas difícil que salga en Japón (a excepción de Kuririn). Pero en serio, MOTHER 3 apenas vendió en Japón?? Yo había leído por ahí que fue un gran éxito y toda la cosa. :/
Y te recomiendo que la próxima vez que tengas la oportunidad, te emules el EarthBound, por si que vale la pena.

Mother 3 fue un exito el dia de su estreno pero en total no ha llegado ni al medio millon, lo cual es una pena.
Por cierto, creo que te has equivocado, supongo que en vez de "y ya vez que si un juego no sale en América, esta aun mas difícil que salga en Japón" querrias decir que "si un juego no tiene expectativas de venta en America es aun mas dificil que salga DE Japon"

I beat Earthound several times, but never did play all the way through Mother... I kept dying in the graveyard...
Anyway, this is great! I like the colours, and outlines... you're very good at... drawing characters... yes. Drawing characters... very good...

Gee, it's really sad that Earthbound/Mother was never released in Europe! I would really like to play it, would be cool if it was released for the Virtual Consol.....

Ejem...About the advanced critique....the only thing that bothers me it's the shadow below their feet... (it is a shadow, right?) it looks....static to me...you managed to give great details with light and shadow on their clothes and that shadow comes to ruin that...the diagonal lines on the back ground don't help the shadow either...those lines provide the movement the charactes lack and then the ugly shadow of doom comes over and it get's the harmony (sp?) broken... The background, trough simple, would have been effective if that shadow wasn't there....IMHO

Gracias Ivi, ni yo se que es esa sombra fea debajo de los niños XD esque no queria que estuvieran "flotando", asi que la puse mas como si fuera una especie de suelo... aun si tienes razon, arruina parte del dibujo...
Y si use grosores diferentes para el delineado, aunque no se notan mucho... de todos modos ya voy a cambiar de estilo de entintado.
