Each entrant was given three prompts that had to be incorporated into a 5 page comic. Mine were:
- A telescope
- Chinatown, NYC
- The phrase, "pop the champagne"

Thanks! I knew I wasn't going to be coloring it, so I made sure to have more interplay between light and dark. It was a fun challenge and also a good exercise in not overthinking or noodling things too much -- as I sometimes do!
As for the characters, I didn't even realize until after I'd sketched up the whole thing in rough form that both characters are me -- the artist character is the logical side of my brain, analytical and impassive, and his slightly dimwitted buddy is the instinctive, creative side, full of ideas that don't always make sense.
I really couldn't think of what else to do with the three prompts I was given, so I figured I'd make a story about not knowing what to do.
