There is a headache waiting at the top. And, yes, a somewhat kitschy observation opportunity. But, minus all that...

It was great, I just wanted to lie down on the floor though! I think beyond about 3000m I start feeling a little feeble. I went up to a hut on the Matterhorn once, at 3226m (I think), and that made me feel a little squiffy. Not too squiffy to eat lunch though!

There is some medicine a person can take, but I've never tried it. For some people, high altitude can be life-threatening. I'm okay to about 4000 meters, if I don't have to run fast! Skiing way up high is a high.

Until you try and turn on some ice, your legs jam apart, you get a crippling strain, and have to get dragged down the mountain backwards on a sledge, that is! No more skiing for me, but I don't really mind now that I know more about how bad it is for fragile apline ecosystems...

GeraldWinslow In reply to kimonokraken [2008-09-18 05:34:12 +0000 UTC]

I once accompanied my younger daughter when she had to be sledded out after a rather bad skiing accident. And you're probably right about the ecosystem. There are more eco-friendly ways to enjoy snow in the mountains.

Hehe, when I was being pulled down the mountain, my skiing instructor was following behind, and I kept calling things out like "How's my form?" and "Am I leaning my weight correctly?".

I am actually still carrying that injury somewhat even now! I can run and exercise and things, so that's ok, I just couldn't do anything too gymnastic with the old legs...

Sorry 'bout that injury. You look far too young to be talking about "old legs"!

Well...I think you should start planning the trip. It's easier than most people think. Find a friend and fly to Zurich; from there you can take the train to Interlaken. Then it's time to hike and take pictures! And thanks for looking at this one.

trails as in REAL trails ??? proper or at least semi proper paths ????? lol I am ready NOW, lol Ireland has too many walks that aren't exactly marked clearly causing way too much confusion and on occasion great discomfort during the coming down process (for one with arthiritis anyway) ....lol but having said that.... that's where we get the best photos .... but anyhoooooo these I am posting now had a gorgeous trail, couldn't go wrong at all and more of them are to come

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

GeraldWinslow In reply to InShinFrog [2007-09-24 13:52:10 +0000 UTC]

All the Swiss trails are kept as only the Swiss keep things, with signs at every junction telling one how much time it will take to get to various places. The only problem is that the times were calculated by people who are actually in shape. The rest of us can usually double the numbers!
